I’ve done loads of rooms. I don’t say this to claim I’m amazing, I’m definitely not. I say this because I have seen literally hundreds of rooms at this point. I know there is a massive spectrum between the more analog mom and pop shops and the Hollywood level special fx rooms. But I love all escape games that are thoughtfully designed and well executed. Because of that it’s hard for me to give any room a bad review. 

Buuuuuut it really frustrates me when basic tenants of escape game design aren’t followed. I should not be expected to use outside knowledge. The clue for a word puzzle we were stuck on was that they were nautical themed. If the answers were general enough terms then maybe this would be okay. But one of them is a term I can’t even find on google after the fact. It’s not a well designed puzzle and has two parts. If you make assumptions on the first you’ll never solve the second. I have to assume most people request a clue on some part (or in our case most) of this puzzle. That’s not a hard puzzle, it’s bad design.

But I digress. I didn’t love this room. It’s adequately decorated and themed, there are a couple of puzzles that are flawed and nothing wow worthy or surprising. The puzzles did generally fit the theme, though even that was a stretch at times. 

This is the second room I’ve played here and while I didn’t write a review of my first I remember feeling sort of meh about it at the end. My husband wasn’t a super experienced player at the time so I chalked it up to that. In retrospect maybe it was also a mediocre room. 

Overall I wouldn’t recommend spending your money here.

Some outside knowledge needed in the beginning. By outside, I mean we googled the phrase when we left and could not find any reference to this phrase at all. We wasted so much time because the game master was not really engaged. After wasting 15 minutes on that puzzle we still had 15 minutes remaining when we got out. So ultimately we paid for a 30 minute experience. We were excited because this room looked way more decorated than any other room they have, we were quickly let down.

Not a terrible room, but a math themed puzzle that was weird and hard to follow, although  easy to solve with plug and chug.  Also a puzzle with vague nautical terms, and pictures that can be interpreted a multitude of ways.   Electronics did not trigger when they should, and a puzzle that involved following wire trails on a blurry photo.  Felt more like a vision test than a puzzle.  Room decor was pretty good, not outstanding.
