Feels weird saying a room has potential when it’s been open for quite a few years now, but it’s how I felt after escaping with just minutes to spare. The dimly lit room had wonderful ideas and amazing set design. I thought the use of floors for space was very interesting, but sloppily handled. The stairs are not the easiest to climb safely and quickly. For the most part, you will probably have to climb up and down it multiple times, and it’s a narrow passageway. Also, it’s a mandatory staircase to access puzzles. In addition, when we solved puzzles, or believed we solved them, it was hard to figure out what exactly opened or happened. Sometimes it happened on the opposite floor and the GM had to basically tell us where to go.
Then… the final puzzle happened, and it was so confusing that the GM gave us 3 entire hints for it alone before we understood what to do. It felt like a puzzle where it’s amazing in theory and it probably sounds great in the designer’s head, but how it was signposted and executed was weak. Don’t get me wrong. It’s an excellent puzzle in theory, but I really wanted it to be better. I liked the room overall, especially the aesthetics. I just wish there was better flow and guidance. Shout out to the Scarab King for helping us pass an annoying puzzle! We’re not worthy!
