Escapology has a but problem. Every game I’ve played there is good and had fun elements, but there’s always a but.
The intro video spins a lengthy yarn about a creepy priest, but the puzzles have little to do with the plot. The 7 deadly sins are used as a progress tracker on your hint screen, but the puzzles share no thematic link to the sins (you’ll solve something and then notice, “Oh, I guess that was gluttony…?”). Some puzzles use unique props, but the props are janky and don’t give you the response they should. Some puzzles are layered, but the layers aren’t signposted; it’s like you need a degree in escape room logic and a minor in illogic to go through their rooms without a hint.
The finale was nice with dramatic effects, but then the game isn’t over until you put some random prop back in the main room… At every turn, the room undermines itself, when it could be great. That, perhaps, is the greatest sin of all.

Particularly interesting or different
No
Interesting plot with nearly no gameplay integration.
Difficulty comes from janky props and logical leaps that could be solved by signposting and testing.
One prop for measurements was off in a very detrimental way.
