As a big fan of The Lord of the Rings, I couldn’t resist booking Legend of the Seven Rings at Escape Time. It was our first experience with this company, and it didn’t disappoint! Our GM was super friendly, making us feel really welcome (which isn’t always guaranteed). After locking away our belongings, we were taken over to a big black curtain, asked to close our eyes and step forward. When we opened our eyes, we both smiled as when faced with the iconic round hobbit house door. Our first task was to find a way to get inside! Once unlocked, we entered the first of four different rooms. The theming across the board was great and definitely made us feel as if we had been transported to Middle Earth. The game is linear, so followed a clearly defined path. We counted at least 14 different tasks we had to complete, but may have missed a few. There was only one traditional lock in the room, the rest were mechanical. Standout moments included gaining entry to the hobbit house and the final puzzles in the last room. I’m reluctant to say more as I don’t want to spoil these particular elements, but they were particularly magical. Oh, and we had a huge grin on our faces at one point when we received a surprising gift. This room sparked a lot of joy and, despite not being overly challenging, it was fun to get to immerse ourselves in Tolkien’s world. We played as a team of two and found the 60 minute runtime to be very manageable.
