This was a fun room but it wasn’t as scary as I anticipated! I don’t say this as a negative thing, I just think that it is something to acknowledge. The rooms were immersive and the puzzles were enjoyable. This would be a great game to test out the waters with horror themed escape rooms!
The gameplay was unique and flowed well!. The non-linear organization of this game allowed for everyone to participate in the game effectively without feeling overwhelmed.
There were multiple rooms throughout this game and they were all different from one another while still being a sensible part of the setting. Some of the rooms in this game were “outdoors” and they weren’t 100% believably outside but they were pretty close to it.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
I haven’t played a game with this setting before. “Creature features” aren’t a super popular theme for escape rooms so this was definitely exploring uncharted territory.
The storyline wasn’t super complex but it was effective at driving the game forward.
I would say that this game was slightly harder than “Phantom Files” at this location but it still wasn’t overwhelmingly challenging. With the exception of a couple puzzles, most of these puzzles were relatively intuitive.
Game tech
There were a lot of physical locks in this room but there were also some technical aspects (mostly in relation to the creature) that incorporated more story elements into the room.
The individual sections of this room were kind of small. Three people felt like enough to do this room and I probably wouldn’t recommend more than four people.
Honestly, I expected this room to be scarier.
I believe that The Escape Ventures has four “scary” rooms: The Neighborhood Watcher, Outage, Cornstalkers, and this one. The Neighborhood Watcher was a lot scarier than Nightfall. I have not done Outage or Cornstalkers yet but will be doing them soon!
This really wasn’t incredibly scary but it was still fun. This room would be appropriate for younger adventurers IF they like semi-scary things.
Live actors
The game master participates in parts of this room but is not present throughout every part of the game.
Physically active
Somewhat
Everyone must crawl through one passageway and navigate a couple of stairs.
Accessibility
This is not a great room for people with mobility restrictions due to the stairs, crawling requirement, and small spaces.
A couple of puzzles required color but I don’t recall any puzzles that required hearing.
