52 escape rooms
This was a fun room! Bayou was my 48th escape room (43W - 5L) but I still consider myself a bit of a novice - mostly because I ride the coattails of my teammate, Baby Squirrel. :) I played with four other teammates with similar statistics ranging in age from 10 to 59 years. We consider this room to be on the hard side of medium difficulty, mostly because of the number of puzzles needed to be solved. The room was mostly non-linear so everyone had something to work on. In fact, after we escaped the room, we went back inside so people could explain what they did on their puzzles while I was working on another one. The room decorations and props were impressive and immersive. The puzzles were a mixture of high tech and mechanical (lock & key), but maybe slightly more tech-y. Everything was in working condition and the story flowed very well from the intro video.
Gameplay
The story was fun and the room was very immersive.
Atmosphere
The decorations and puzzles were impressive and immersive. Everything was in great condition and worked without a glitch.
Customer service
Our GM was very nice and he respected our request to offer hints / nudges only when requested. His typical advice was for us to read or listen to the instructions again - lol.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
The story was fun and the puzzles were fun to solve. I enjoyed going back into the room after we escaped so that my teammates could show me what they did to solve their puzzles while I was working on another one.
Story
The pre-story was very involved. I was a little worried before we entered the room that I would need to remember all of the details, but it was fine. The story was just that, a back story.
Difficulty
Medium
This was my 48th escape room (43W-5L) which I played with four teammates with similar statistics. Our group agrees that this room was on the hard side of medium based on our experience. The sheer number of puzzles makes this a bit difficult. We finished with 16:38 remaining.
Game tech
High tech
The room was a nice mix of mechanical and tech-y, but slightly more tech.
Ideal number of players
5
We played as a group of five which was a nice number for us. No one was ever standing around with nothing to do.
Scary
Not scary
We don't do scary. The room was dim though.
Minimum age
8
My suggestion is 8 years old only based on a typical 8 year old attention span. But if you have younger enthusiasts, you should certainly include them.
Was anything broken?
No
Everything was in good condition and worked without a glitch.
Live actors
No
We don't do rooms with live actors.
Physically active
Somewhat
There was the usual scurrying around, kneeling, and crawling.
Accessibility
I think this room would be difficult for people with impairments. Puzzles and instructions required hearing, sight and physical abilities.
Easy to find location
Yes
