Vengeance

I was really excited to play this room because I have previously played 3 other rooms at Candid Escapes and really enjoyed them. But I’m sad to say that Vengeance was rather lackluster and disappointing. It kind of felt thrown together… the actual construction of the room felt more like a temporary pop-up escape room that can be built and broken down very quickly. And as far as the puzzles went, it was very lock heavy, which I personally hate. I just don’t find it that fun to spend an hour figuring out a tedious amount of solutions for all of the number locks and word locks scattered everywhere. At least we successfully escaped. I’d recommend trying out Candid’s other offerings before Vengeance.

Overall, this was ok. The atmosphere has potential but there’s absolutely no story. You’re just dumped in the room with no intro or backstory. There was a speaker that volume was too low for us to hear so it’s possible we missed some of that. We solved some clues out of sequence and the game master had to intervene and tell us to disregard them. It’s unusual for an escape room to be so linear that has puzzles that can be accidentally solved. I know this room is still in test phase and they should really beef up the story and maybe space the puzzles out instead of all being clustered in the last room. Also, we got paired with strangers even though the website says all rooms are private in the FAQs. The rooms were a little tight for 6 people especially strangers you might not be comfortable being packed in with. All in all, we’d give this like 3 stars. Not great, not horrible.
