Scooby, Shaggy, and the gang need your mystery-solving help…or else! The town of Crystal Cove and surrounding areas are being terrorized by monsters and ghosts, and now the local Baroness Maria Richman has gone missing and it is suspected that the ghost sightings have something to do with it! Tasked with solving the crime, you arrive at the same conclusion as Mystery Incorporated. But when you get to the Spooky Castle, Mystery Inc. gets locked out, at the same time you get locked in! You soon realize that they’re able to help by communicating clues via magic portraits inside the Castle. After discovering a secret dungeon and monster lab in the castle, you come to the conclusion that the person responsible almost certainly works in the castle - but who could it be as there are several suspects??

109 escape rooms

Overall, this is a well made room with a fun theme. My only complaint about it would be that it’s too easy. Would be good for newer escape room players, but is not really worth the money for experienced players unless you get a big discount on it. We went as a group of two experienced players and that was plenty. I think 4 players would feel crowded in here and like there isn’t enough for everyone to do, since it is fairly linear.

Gameplay

They had some good puzzles, though nothing too novel that I hadn’t seen done elsewhere before.

Atmosphere

Pretty good Scooby-Doo feel, although the room was quite small and cramped.

A fun theme, but not the most challenging puzzles.

We played as 2 and I think it would have felt too cramped with 4 or more players. There wouldn’t be enough for everyone to do either.

Very cool room with videos displays that offered information for the puzzles, but the puzzles themselves were all mechanical. It was still an interesting and unique way to play a room. The puzzles themselves were a good average difficulty. This was one of the rooms where multiple puzzles could be attempted to be worked on at once, but there were a few that required the answer of one puzzle in order to solve the next. All in all, another decent puzzle to notch on your belt.

We loved this room! Gave us some good challenges while keeping the fun scooby doo theme! The interaction you have with the room was really unique. Definitely give it a go, and apparently they have a version for kids as well!

My wife and I love to do escape rooms as a duo. This was the first room we decided to try with our kids (7 year old and 4 year old). It was perfect for that! The theme was fun and the puzzles were things they could get involved in. The two of us would have probably finished in 35 minutes alone, but it was a truly enjoyable experience with the kiddos! (Super bonus - kids 7 and under are free when they join you here!)

52 escape rooms

Jinkies! This was a nostalgic room for a Boomer, like me! My group of three escaped (kind of... the GM added time to the clock at the end to allow us to finish - we reeeeealy appreciate that) with two clues. This was my 32nd room (27W - 5L), so I still consider myself a bit of a newbie. The room was beautifully decorated in theme and all of the puzzles and props were in working order. This was our first room at Escapology but we have reservations to attempt six more this week.

Gameplay

The Scooby-Doo themed room was such a fun throw-back especially since they incorporated so many of the show's characters and props into the story. The story flowed very well and we had a ton of fun.

Atmosphere

The experience, room, and props were very immersive. Everything was in working condition and true to the show.

Customer service

The front desk staff are amazing. We reeeealy appreciated that they added a little time to the clock at the end to allow us to finish (our smartest player had to leave suddenly). I am looking forward to playing more games with Escapology Carlsbad!

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

I love the Scooby-Doo theme. Everything in the room was a nostalgic throw-back.

Story

The plot was just like the old TV episodes. They even incorporated the old villains and minor characters. It was great!

Difficulty

Medium

I would say this is on the hard side of medium. However, this was our first room in awhile so our brains were rusty and we lost our smartest player mid-game. I think they offer a kid's version of the game, but we played the regular level. I think we needed two hints plus extra-time - lol. This was my 32nd game (27W - 5L) and I played with a group of three adults with similar stats.

Game tech

High tech

I think the room is a mixture of high-tech and mechanical (locks & keys) but leaning a little more towards tech.

Ideal number of players

3

This was my 32nd game (27W - 5L) and I played with a group of three adults with similar stats. We needed two hints and extra time, but that might be because our smartest player had to leave the game suddenly (unrelated to the game). Three players felt ideal for our experience level.

Scary

Not scary

This is definitely family-friendly.

Minimum age

8

A kid's version of the game is available, but I think an 8 year old would enjoy the adult version if playing with adults.

Was anything broken?

No

Everything was in working condition.

Live actors

No

No live actors, thank goodness!

Physically active

Somewhat

There is lots of hurrying around the room but nothing overly exhausting.

Accessibility

The room is probably large enough for a wheelchair, but there are color, visual, and auditory elements.

Easy to find location

Yes

It is in a mall, right off I-78

Parking

Easy

It is in a mall.
