Rating: 3.5/5 - Interesting, high tech room hampered by glitches.
This was almost a ❤️ for me, but a few things brought down the experience.
Pros:
➕Loved the steampunk theming and immersion, every object felt like it fit in the universe. Even the timer and old school flashlight felt appropriate.
➕Set looked great, it was decorated floor to ceiling with many custom pieces.
➕Good use of ambient audio and LED lighting. The overall room lighting was also bright enough, I dislike rooms that are too dark.
➕More than a single room to explore.
➕Puzzles were very physical/tactile with many objects to manipulate. I enjoyed them and they were fair and made sense.
➕Some props and puzzles I haven't seen yet even after 200+ rooms.
➕Lots of interesting, custom tech. There were only 2-3 padlocks.
➕There is some non-linearity so there were opportunities to split up.
Room for improvement:
➖A reset error resulted in a door opening too early and laggy/delayed/glitchy tech put a huge damper on our flow. We finished something, then would have to wait a while before something would trigger.
➖We only had 1 GM who was running two simultaneous rooms. This led to delayed responses and at one point, I think he accidentally spoke to our room when he was trying to give the other room a hint.
➖All the custom 3D printed parts were interesting, but they were unfinished since the 3D print lines were still visible.
I recommend a team of 2-4 enthusiasts.
My ranking of the 3 rooms here starting with my favorite:
1. Salvation Reactor
2. Prison Escape
