Great Gold Bird (first run) [Immersive Theatre]

This was almost cool. There are three components: online, location 1, and location 2. Online was interesting. Location 1 was very fun, but location 2 is revealed at location 1, and it was a looooong drive in Los Angeles. I wish I had realized ahead of time what a trek it was going to be. Also the ending was lackluster, like . . . we drove all that way for that? But, the idea is here. I think this could be a fun experience with more development, but this wasn't quite there. If you do this at night bring a flashlight, lantern, headlamp. We were not at all prepared and that would have been very helpful.

I really appreciate the creator’s attempt to do something different. This experience bills itself as a “wander play” — I’d describe it as a mix of a narrative driven scavenger hunt with a dash of escape elements. And I dig that idea. But I didn’t find myself enamored with the story line or by the characters, which is a crucial element to this kind of experience. I think we spent more time driving than in the experience. The storyline also reminded me a bit of the nest. Regardless, I hope to see the creators refine this idea and I would definitely give their future endeavors a shot. If you go, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and consider bringing a flashlight.

DO NOT DO THIS "EXPERIENCE" This is a black mark on Hatch Escapes and the level of quality they provide otherwise. It is not even a game. It could have been an app. Simply some recordings and letters to read. No magic. No wonder. It is offensive for them to put this out there and charge what they do for it.
