A great supernatural spinoff of the Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective series! It’s a set of 5 mysteries, and it plays similarly to SHCD in that you are investigating leads by using a leads book, address directory, newspapers, and maps to solve a case. However, instead of a completely grounded case like in Sherlock, the mysteries here are more supernatural and Lovecraftian by nature. They are still logical, which lead to mysteries that can be solved. But you have to use some imagination and accept some science fiction solutions beyond regular human undrstanding. The way you solve mysteries is different, though, and asks you to pick 3 locations where you can “stop” the incident, as opposed to answering the questions of the case. You have a limited amount of leads to follow before you must give your final answer. However, it is still fun playing detective, interviewing people and investigating scenes, in order to solve not just whodunit but what’s going on?! Some cases are really out there, even drastically changing the rules and approach in astounding ways. It essentially flips the script in ways I won’t spoil but basically, forget everything I just said when you get there and strap in for something completely different. helps make it stand out from SHCD even more. It’s spooky, and I love it as a fan of mysteries. The writing is pretty solid, and the mysteries got our group really thinking. Not as good as the legendary SHCD but fun for a group of supernatural sleuths!
