Super immersive room with fantastically fun puzzles! Not your usual Western room, complete with an impressively interactive set, engaging and entertaining puzzles, and a super cool ending. Definitely one of Countdown’s most immersive games. Had a lot of fun getting into character! We did this room as a team of 2 and it was very difficult with just 2 people; we would not have gotten out in time without the help of our GM. Definitely better suited for a team of 4 or more people. Well suited for families. (As for merch, Countdown does not have any merch at this time.)

Gameplay

Very mixed on this—the puzzles themselves were absolutely a blast; novel, fun, engaging, & the puzzle mechanics were super unique. But, signposting for puzzles was very lacking. Many red herrings, yet at the same time some puzzles asked you to think about things that seem (and should have been) mundane.

Atmosphere

Fabulous, immersive set. Countdown excels at atmosphere and vibe. Probably one of their most immersive rooms

Customer service

GMs and hosts here were great. Our GM Jenna was fantastic, did an excellent job of guiding us when needed and was an overall lovely person

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

The puzzles alone make this room worthwhile. So many novel mechanics and designs that I had never seen or done before—and they are such a blast to do. This one is not like other standard Western rooms!

Story

Fine, but forgettable

Difficulty

Hard

Medium for a group of 4+ We were a group of 2, and it was definitely hard. We needed several hints and we likely would not have gotten out in time without them. The unclear puzzle flow and amount of filler items largely contributes to the difficulty

Game tech

High tech

Lots of the puzzles are very high quality in terms of tech. Still some key and combo locks. Ending was immersive and cool, but a little bit clunky and anticlimactic

Ideal number of players

Not recommended for a group of 2 (unless you are very willing to receive hints often)

Scary

Fun spooky vibe! Mostly from the dimly lit nature of the set

SO MUCH FUN!!! The ending is crazy and there were a few puzzles that were so fun and eliciting and just cool in the moment. Countdown never disappoints. Definitely on the easier side compared to some of their other games but just so unique and amazing loved every second of it. Would be so much fun with younger kids too

Very cool room with some great mechanics, good flow and a beautiful set. Two critiques: it's a bit short (the ending is anticlimactic) and the GM's instructions break the immersion.

Ghost Town was a standout room, not just in the Lexington area, but amongst all of the rooms I’ve completed. An easy love! The theming was really fun, everything felt very Wild West. We had a bit of a challenge figuring out where to start, but once we did, it was pretty go-go-go. Puzzles I thought stood out for the good: wagon (loved how we had to show the answers), gun (so fun!), drinks/blackjack, dancing. Puzzle I thought could use some work: the only one that I thought was kind of useless was the coffin locks. A lot of the codes were just written on items. Probably nice for kids who play, but did find as enthusiasts it wasn’t thought provoking. The ending was fantastic and a standout part of an already incredible room. Our group of five enthusiasts finished with about 20 minutes left and we saw the group before us finish with 12 minutes left, so it could have been longer/more puzzles, but I understand with the ending reveal, they probably want to ensure most people do get that finishing scene.

Kalli was the main person introducing us to the rooms, but everyone at Countdown was great!

We played with five enthusiasts and thought that was appropriate. The ending sequence didn’t have a ton of room, so probably wouldn’t recommend more than 6 people for everyone to get the full effect.

I think kids will love the final reveal and one set of locks was just finding a code, no puzzle involved, which could be fun/easy for kids to contribute.

There are stairs to get to the room before you even enter, one part with stairs that only 1 person really needs to go, and the final sequence has a step up.

Accessibility

I’d reach out to countdown if mobility / climbing stairs is difficult for you. Hearing loss might also be something I’d talk to Countdown about, as the gun puzzle requires you to hear to know if you’ve placed everything correctly.

Rating 4.5/5 - My favorite at Countdown with a fantastic, climactic ending Here's why I loved this room: -That ending, WOW, one of them most exciting and unique experiences I've had in an escape room even after 150+ rooms -Puzzles were very fun and felt appropriate to the wild west setting -A lot of interesting and unique tech that was made to fit the theme, only a few padlocks mixed in -Set was immersive and looked great -Multiple areas/rooms to explore -A lot of cool reveals and fun interactions -Friendly and helpful GM -This a must-play, we drove 3 hours to play at Countdown and this room (and Mansion) made the trip worth it. The only downside is that the room is very short, but I suspect it is to make sure all the groups see the ending. I'd recommend 4 players, my team of 5 completed it with 20 minutes left. At least one person will need to climb stairs and crawl. My ranking of the rooms here I've played starting with my favorite: 1. Ghost Town - Rating: 4.5/5 2. Murder Mansion - Rating: 4/5 3. The Pirate Ship - Rating: 4/5 4. Prison Break - Rating: 3.5/5 5. Time Machine - Rating: 3.5/5 6. The Scary One - Rating: 3.5/5 7. Abduction - Rating: 3.5/5 8. Shock & Awe - Rating: 3/5

Yeehaw! This Ghost Town is Countdown Games’ newest game, and it’s a hoot and a holler! Great puzzles, masterful contraptions, and an epic finale to boot. I was very blown away by the ending. We beat it as a team of 2, but it’s definitely rough with the sheer amount of puzzles. Still a great time and one of the Best Western rooms I’ve been to. Made me wanna go YEEEHAWWWW!
