Not as amazing as we had been lead to believe, I think we were victims of hype for this one, very linear, and just not as spectacular as we had hoped

Lab Rat takes place in a laboratory where giant rats are doing odd experiments on human beings, specifically you! The somewhat unhinged Ratkenstein, a doctoral student in the field of human intelligence (or, in his estimation, the lack thereof), has tasked you with completing a series of tests and puzzles. If you succeed, he can finally write his dissertation. If you fail, he’s going to put you and your friends in the old test-subject chipper (like a wood chipper, but for test subjects!). You’ll have one hour to complete the tests and attempt to get out of the laboratory for good, before Ratkenstein turns you into mulch!

We were quite excited about this room and were not disappointed. The room was very well done but it is old and could used a little TLC. The first room is dark which it’s supposed to be but it makes it hard to complete some puzzles! I understand why it is rated so high.

There is some climbing but only one person needs to do it!
There is one step up into the room but several steps before but there are no rails which can be dangerous for some people.

Possibly one of the top escape rooms experiences I’ve had. My group had a great time and there were so really clever and unique moments in the game. The theming was spectacular and really unique. Very tactile, which I prefer. Although we had a bit of trouble with some of the earliest puzzles, we found our stride and breezed through the later half. Would probably not recommend for groups larger than 5, as many rooms are small and may be difficult with more people.
Some really unique puzzles and moments due to the theming. Some solutions were difficult for us to interpret but we got there eventually.
Great atmosphere and set! Water bottle was really a highlight!
Our GM was great, very sociable and chatty. Had a good laugh with them.

I think many of the interactions are unique, and those that are not are themed very well to make up for it.
Story was great! Loved the videos and story elements.

Majority of the puzzles were not particularly difficult, although some took a bit because we were approaching it wrong.
Mechanical
Mechanical and tactile, very hands on.

More than 5 may crowd small rooms and leave some without anything to do at times, definitely no more than 6.
Not scary
I think some people may find the rat in the videos scary but I personally did not. Not a scary experience in my opinion.

Could bring younger children, although they may make a bit of a mess with the water bottle.

Long hallways (which we did run in but that’s optional), light climbing, multiple rooms, no area to sit.
First room can be somewhat dark with no provided flashlight, multiple color puzzles, no easy area to sit until close to the end, light climbing for 1 member, lots of area, small hallways and rooms (could be difficult with a wheelchair or crutches). An area can only be accessed by a thin walkway between 2 objects, only required by one person, it would be difficult to access in a wheelchair or by a larger person.

Went with 6 people and it was perfect. Was challenging for the more experienced players but still had wiggle room for the less experienced players to solve some puzzles. The only reason to not go is that every escape room you attend afterwards will have you wishing it was as good as lab rat.

We had lots of fun. A bit more of an old school mechanical room but the puzzles were all fun and we even got in a few Ah Ha! Moments when we realized something we overlooked at first. We also played their latest room The Ladder just before. If I had to only pick one I would go with The Ladder but I thoroughly enjoyed both games.

Lots of walking up and down hallways
People with color blindness and or mobility issues would likely struggle with potions of the game. The hallways are narrow so they would be difficult to move a wheel chair through (not to mention the stairs to get into the room to begin with). And there are a number of color puzzles as well.

Phenomenal. One of the best times I’ve had in an escape room. Hatch’s reputation precedes itself and I was blown away by not only the set design but the sheer amount of puzzles and quality of them as well. I did it with a larger group than usual but that heightened the stakes and made solving things even more exciting. With a theme that I’ve never seen replicated and a room that spans surprisingly far into the building, Lab Rat is a must-experience room for any fan of escaping.

This was an incredibly enjoyable room. The puzzles were unique, thematic, and an appropriate level of difficulty. The set was incredible with very high production value. The GM was engaging and friendly. The only (minor) complaints were that the instructions/intro were a bit too long, and we never received a confirmation or instructions before the date of our booking. I would definitely book another experience at Hatch.

A charming room that forces a shift in perspective that feels incredibly unique. I know many people say 4 is the right amount, but we comfortably managed it with 2, so if you have a smaller group and you’re feeling wary, I say go for it. The theming was unlike any room I’ve done before, and the space felt immersive, without anything feeling extraneous. Thomas, our game guide, was a delight.
