520 escape rooms

This is such a fun and unique experience that is not an escape room, but pulls together elements from escape rooms, mysteries, and the classic board game Clue. After checking in, you walk around the area to several establishments, mostly participating restaurants. None of them are too far from each other. At each location, we encountered one or two items of interest. Each item featured either clues, statements, puzzles, lockboxes, or other interesting things that all funnel into helping you solve the mystery of who killed Boddy. At the last location, you put all your clues together, with the aid of a handy booklet that also has more clues and areas to take notes, and present your accusation of whodunnit, with what, and where to a butler. It’s loads of fun if you like solving mysteries, and definitely more approachable if you are skilled with standard room escape puzzles. None of them were that hard, but there is a sense of pressure when others are behind you waiting for you to finish up. The games are technically playable in private groups, but they send so many groups out at the same time that you are bound to run into others while walking around. Mileage may vary depending on where exactly you are playing, and other factors like the establishments themselves and the weather. I can safely say that Downtown Skokie was a great place to play the game, and we took advantage of special coupon deals for Clue players such as free pizza, popcorn, and drinks. We solved the mystery 1st try, and apparently that’s rare, so we felt like master detectives! It took about 2 hours for our group of 2 to walk around to each place and solve puzzles, and an extra hour or so to solve the mystery at a bar. It was so much fun, and we appreciated how different the experience was, and that we were able to simultaneously explore the town on a nice day! Highly recommended if you get the chance to play this limited-time game to get a Clue!
