Everything about this room was really incredible to experience. The set pieces, the music, the puzzles, and so much more. I really can’t recommend this one enough. The puzzles never felt truly impossible provided you’re willing to ask for hints, and the hints come straight from the GM.
Speaking of GMs, I cannot recommend Charlie enough. You can tell she’s a genuine fan of escape rooms and wants to make sure you have the best time possible. The hints were always very personable, and exactly just enough to get us over any speed bumps we ran into along the way.
We plan to revisit MindFox again in the future for Moriarty, and my partner and I are very excited about their upcoming third game later this year / early next year. Our experience with Black and White Cafe gives a lot of confidence this next room will be just as good, if not better!
The room was nonlinear and the entire aesthetic is incredibly unique. My only wish was that the room was slightly larger, but they made use of every inch of space they had.
The atmosphere was certainly the standout for us. You really feel like you’re in a world with no color. There’s more to it that I can’t get into without spoilers, but you’ll love the ambiance of this room.
Charlie was our GM and was outstanding. She was very welcoming to us and made sure we had an enjoyable time.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
Escape rooms always have certain themes to them, and they can sometimes blend together. I don’t feel like that will ever be the case for one of MindFox’s rooms.
The story was just enough to drop you off and get you started. Don’t expect a whole in-depth world of lore here.
In hindsight a lot of puzzles here were very easy to overthink but often had straightforward solutions. Despite needing the hints because of that, we never felt like we had to make any leaps of logic and the solutions always felt manageable.
I would guess around a 60/40 split between high tech and mechanical here. Several padlocks, the solution to those padlocks often involved some high tech, hands-on problem solving.
We definitely felt the time crunch with five minutes to spare and a few hints but we also ended up wasting a lot of time on certain parts in retrospect. Any more than 4 and I feel you’ll be quite cramped in the room.
The room will get dark at one point but it is entirely within the players’ control. Smaller children might be spooked by this. There’s some very relaxing (lo-fi?) remixes playing in the background that add to the more chilled out experience and cafe vibe.
The only thing I would say isn’t child friendly about this room is the height of the puzzles. They’re very clearly intended to be reached by teens/adults.
Everything worked incredibly smoothly. You can definitely tell a lot of care is put into the maintenance and upkeep of the set pieces here.
Physically active
Not at all
Minor bending and reaching as expected of all escape rooms.
Accessibility
The room would probably be quite cramped for a wheelchair but you could probably make it work. There is some text that those with trouble seeing might have difficulty reading. No puzzles relied on sound, smell, or hearing.
The front entrance is very clearly labeled with the MindFox branding.
While there seemed to be only a couple of reserved spots, there was only one other party there besides us so we had no trouble parking. There was also almost no traffic in the vicinity.
