Special Ops: Mysterious Market was a well-constructed escape room with solid set design and a smooth, believable transition between scenes. As a team of two, we started off overthinking the first puzzle—unsure whether to search, match, or spot the difference—which led to an early bottleneck that could have been avoided with a slight tweaking of the puzzle. The second half had some nice moments of set design, though we hit another slowdown on one of the puzzles (maybe just an off morning for us). If I were to rate this on set design and immersion, it would be a 4.5. In terms of puzzles, maybe slightly under a 4 (the puzzles were enjoyable, if not spectacular). Overall, it was the type of solid game one expects from this company.

One of the best games at The Escape Game in my opinion. Only The Depths has surpassed it. (Still haven’t done Prison Break or The Heist though). Great story, great immersion, a few well-layered puzzles, a few red herrings, and a few thinkers, made for a pretty decent variety. Loved the mission videos, especially towards the end. There were a few missing/faded/broken/not well lit props that made things a little harder, if they get fixed, refreshed or aff. Jacob in the reception area was so nice to us and talked with us about all of the games we’ve played, and he was so kind in helping us change reservation times. And most importantly, Casey, by far the BEST Game Master I’ve ever had. She’s the kindest possible person, she goes along with comedy bits, gets into the story, and knows exactly when to give nudges and when to let us struggles. Truly a perfect GM. I adore her. Overall experience 9/10.

Gameplay

The puzzles were well-layered and they integrated just enough of red herrings into a few of them to make it a bit more challenging. The first room was better in that puzzles could be done simultaneously where the second room has a little more of a linear flow, which meant there were a few moments where one or more people could be stuck waiting on another to finish their puzzles. 7/10

Atmosphere

The video and story integration was fantastic. The decor felt very in theme and immersive. I only wish some lighting was brighter or visual cues/dot markers on props were brighter. At times a few of the markers were virtually unnoticeable and vital to two puzzles. 8/10

Customer service

Jacob was super cool to talk to in the reception area and was so kind to us when helping us switch reservation times. And Casey (I hope I spelled it right) was the literal best game master I’ve worked with. The kindest human, gets into the storyline and plays along with comedy bits. And she knows exactly when to step in with nudges and when to let us struggle. Made the game that much more better! 10/10

Particularly interesting or different

No

I thought the mission videos interspersed made the story more immersive than the bulk of other rooms. There weren’t any kind of puzzles I hadn’t necessarily seen before (there was one, that I won’t ruin here) but all of them were done in a fresh way. 8/10

Story

Great storyline, great mission videos that gave short breaks and story immersion. The transition between rooms was great! Nice twist on things. 9/10

Difficulty

Hard

A few parts of the room were aged/faded, or not working properly that made things a bit harder. At 2 people, definitely on the 8/10 side but with more people and working parts, I suspect it’d be a 7-ish.

Accessibility

Not wheelchair friendly inside when moving into second room, though, there are doors to both rooms via the hallway so accommodations could be made. The mission video has subtitles, the remaining three videos do not. It is a very low light room and has puzzles that are color based and there are many mechanical parts that have colored dots on them for orientation but they are not easily viewable.

This escape room was absolutely amazing! Full of surprises from start to finish. We loved every moment of the experience. The storytelling was so immersive, with plenty of twists and turns that kept us hooked. The decor was simply incredible—meticulously crafted and constantly surprising us. And that ending? We did not see it coming! It was such an unexpected and exciting conclusion to the adventure.

A great room with a very interesting twist. I did feel like the sections of the room were a little disjointed, but I think that, for this one in particular, that is part of what makes it so memorable.
