There is a heavy cloud that covers the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Livestock have been struck down by sickness and townsfolk complain of molestations from the invisible world. They fear the occult; arts of malignant evil and wicked vengeance, and all fingers seem to point to The House on the Hill. Rumour has it that the widow who lives there is using witchcraft to try and summon a portal from the natural world to the unnatural one. They have sent you to the house to investigate. You have 70 minutes to find your evidence and escape the house. But be forewarned, if a portal does open, then you will need to shut it quickly, for the demons that have been in there the longest will be the most eager to escape.

The spooky number from ERC, The House on the Hill is a masterclass in puzzle flow and set design coming together into a perfect symphony. Every puzzle felt like it made sense in the space and did a great job of making you feel like you’re moving in the correct direction. Some spooky jumpscare moments but nothing too insane for those who are horror averse. The storyline also felt pretty apparent, leading from the haunted house trope into more of a witchy, secondary vibe which I was really rocking with. The set feels super high quality and well thought out which is evident across every ERC room. Definitely an experience I would recommend to all experience levels whether it’s your first room or your 100th

Another banger from Escape Rooms Canberra here with their take on the notorious haunted house trope. Having played my fair share of spooky supernatural rooms I did have some reservations about this one but I can confidently say the House on the Hill absolutely nailed it. The prop and set design were the real MVPs here with a fantastic array of immaculate looking haunted objects to play and interact with. You can tell this level of quality and upkeep is an aspect that ERC really cares about. While we did escape quite quickly that’s really more of a testament to the amazing puzzle flow and sign posting that I really wish more rooms would incorporate; labelled locks for each puzzle, clear cut objectives, and an over arching narrative that kept making itself known to us. Love it. A terrific spooky addition to an already stellar line up of rooms. Hell yeah.

House on the Hill was the first room we took on in Canberra over the long weekend. Greeted by warm, friendly faces, we were eager to get started. As soon as we walked into the room, we noticed the brilliant theming and production value. The sounds, lighting, and quality of the fit-out were excellent, creating an immersive experience from the start. There were a few dark moments and jump scares that further added to the atmosphere. The puzzles in House on the Hill were excellent, offering a nice variety that included both lower-tech and higher-tech challenges. Each puzzle made sense in the space and was perfectly suited to the room's theme. Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed the room. It was a great start to our weekend of escape rooms, and we would recommend it as a top-quality experience for both beginners and experienced escape artists.
