Master Diaphugius is the greatest name in wizardry in a handful of generations, and he selected you to be his apprentices. You’ve survived alchemical mishaps, recovered from embarrassing transmutations, and braved quests for all manner of exotic ingredients (not to mention the countless runs for tea leaves). But all those headaches, the long nights, and the singed eyebrows have brought you to this ... your final test. Diaphugius has left you alone in his tower with a single mission. His favorite familiar, the cat Mikla, has gone missing. You have been given one hour. If you can find her before your master returns, he will give you your very own spellbook and the title of ... Assistant Wizard!

Grab your wand and get to work! Great for family bonding but not accessibility friendly. My mom has mobility issues so getting low to get into the second area was difficult for her. This room will engage your senses – especially listening and smelling. Hopefully you still have them – my mom lost her sense of smell when she got covid and never got it back so she couldn’t help with the scent puzzle. The first part is puzzle-packed but the second room holds the real magic. Don’t let the fireplace puzzle burn up your time or else you’ll end up like us and not escape. The Ouija board was a crowd-favorite. The dragon mirror puzzle felt disjointed but the overall experience was enchanting.

Really great and varied puzzles and creative design. Very immersive experience. This is my third PanIQ Escape Room and would highly recommend.

Solid set design but the puzzles were trial and error + brute force and several were broken. Don’t recommend.

This is my fourth room at PanIQ and I didn't think it was their best work. The immersion was good. choosing our wands at the beginning was fun, but we didn't use them for enough things. I felt like there were a bunch of puzzles that we just had to brute force to solve, which was tedious and frustrating. There was a puzzle that was out of service, but it was still present and was a huge red herring that we wasted a bunch of time on; they could have done something to cover it up or otherwise make it clear that it was just set dressing. The music was louder than it needed to be. I really enjoy PanIQ, but I don't think I would recommend this particular room to anyone.

You get to pick which wands you use in this room! Or perhaps the wand chooses you? It’s such a fun little thing that makes you feel more invested. The wands amount to magnetic button pushers more than something really magical, but it’s still fun to use them in the Wizard Trials! Puzzles ranged from makes SENSE to pesky guess and check challenges that I did not enjoy. What annoyed us most was a “WIP puzzle” that was essentially a fake time-wasting red herring that took us way too long and didn’t actually lead to anything. I think this is a good room for groups and families just wanting to have light wizarding fun. With wands!

Edit: I am updating this from thumbs down to thumbs up based on Paniq's response to my review. Heidi, Paniq's regional manager, reached out to me saying that this was a training error and it was indeed Paniq's policy to charge the price at the door for extra players at the correct prorated amount. She refunded my purchase in its entirety and gave me a voucher for a free game which is more than generous. She also said that they do take feedback from their GMs seriously and that they are already in process of updating the puzzle I disliked. I really appreciate that she worked very hard to make this right. It's unfortunate that a bad review was required to get Paniq's attention, but I do believe they are an honest company with a good (albeit expensive) product based on the one room I've done with them. In their defense on the price part, the rent in Logan Square is probably pretty high. Original review below. The reason I gave this a thumbs down is because they have a policy that I believe is a rip-off to customers. This game has a sliding scale where the more players you have, the cheaper per person it gets. They also offer the ability to add more players, and the FAQ states "So long as your final player count does not exceed your chosen game's limit, that's not a problem! We can process payment for extra players at the door. We are unable to process refunds for players who don't show up, so book conservatively if your final headcount is uncertain." So I booked for 2 and then added 2 at the door. However, they did not give us the price for 4 people in total, we paid $8 plus tax more than that. When I sent them an email inquiring, they said, "Since our games are private, we have scaling pricing for smaller groups. Once purchased, this price is not adjusted for variations in the group size. To mitigate this, additional tickets are set at our cheapest player price: $37.95, instead of the additional tickets also being $43.95 at the 4 player rate." I think this is unfair and takes advantage of customers. There's no mention of it in the FAQ or the booking process. This is on top of the fact that the game is already very expensive compared to other escape rooms, and the fact that when I booked it initially, I got charged a $3.71 transaction fee that was apparently unavoidable unless I had a prepaid voucher. So that's another ripoff. Basically, this company is trying to find little ways to sneak in hidden charges and it's unethical. The game itself was enjoyable. Really good atmosphere, mostly good puzzles, though there's two puzzles that are of the exact same type--I don't like the kind of puzzle that was represented at all, and two was definitely too many. Especially as one was the last puzzle of the game. When I gave feedback on that, I was just told by the GM that they agree. It was clear that they were not empowered at this chain to actually provide feedback on the design. But overall, the GM was perfectly nice.

We liked this room better than PaniQ’s Medieval Madness (see my review on that room for more details). The tech was better in this room, and we felt like there was a better variety of puzzles. We enjoyed the whimsical atmosphere and thematic reveals. There were a few minor issues that kept me from loving this room (see below for more details if you are okay with mild spoilers). But overall, this room was fun and enjoyable, and I would recommend it for enthusiasts and newbies alike. WARNING: MILD SPOILERS AHEAD. Here are the couple of negatives that kept us from fully loving the room: 1. There were still a couple of trial-and-error time wasters like Medieval Madness had—but at least the ones in Wizard Trials were fun or funny, so that made the experience more enjoyable overall. 2. There was also one puzzle that had pieces that were half-made for a different puzzle that wasn’t actually a part of our game anymore (apparently a change was made post-COVID). Instead of removing those components, PaniQ left them in, thereby creating a red herring that was a little annoying. But it wasn’t a huge deal, and we still had fun overall.
