For the past few days, you've been getting a phone call from an unlisted number. You've ignored it for as long as you can, but you finally answer. A mysterious voice answers informing you that you have a package waiting for you, and you can pick it up at the final stop of the East End Express. The only problem is, there is no such thing as the East End Express. It literally doesn't exist! A few days pass, and a letter arrives for you in the mail. It contains a subway card, and an address with the message: "Your adventure starts now." Your curiosity firmly piqued, you head to the destination. Upon arrival, you discover an abandoned subway platform. Could this be the home of the East End Express? Mysteries will unravel and adventure awaits, but do you have the courage to get on board and take a ride on the East End Express?

A solid, and fun room. The set design was very immersive and there were some fun puzzles. We chose to play the Good Guy side of this room, but had the choice early on of taking a different path and playing the Bad Guy side. Everything flowed well and the puzzles all supported the storyline.

Gameplay

The game flowed very well. We had a little difficulty getting started (always do) but moved along at a good pace throughout the remainder. This was a standard escape room, with immersive designs, with nothing too unique, but was still fun to play.

Atmosphere

Everything was immersive and supported the story. The ending came a little abruptly but made sense looking back.

Customer service

Our GM did a great job getting us set up. We did spin our wheels a little bit at times but also received a couple of hints/clues a little prematurely, especially for finishing in just under 45 minutes.

Particularly interesting or different

No

It was still fun and immersive.

Story

The plot was solid and the puzzles were all well integrated to our efforts.

Difficulty

Medium

On the hard side of medium, but still pretty medium. The puzzles were mostly straightforward, although there was one that looking back did not have a definitive solution which required us to guess at an alternate solution. When we asked the GM at the end she couldn't explain why the answer was our second solution and not our first, based on the clues. Otherwise, there were some fun and unique puzzles in the game.

Game tech

High tech

Mostly tech with some mechanical. A fun combination and some good puzzles.

Ideal number of players

4

We played with our normal three but could have used a little extra brain power at times, despite finishing in just under 45 minutes.

Scary

Not scary

There is a violent "event" toward the end, but it isn't anything outside of normal game play.

Minimum age

10

Slightly older than my normal 8 due to a violent threat in the game toward the end. Otherwise, the puzzles are straightforward and can be solved/understood by a 10-year-old.

Accessibility

Except for the very end (I'm sure there is an alternate means to escape) the game was pretty accessible. Most puzzles were reachable, but the set was a little dark in places.

This room has two different outcomes, and we have played them both. This version of the room is fantastic. The room is extremely immersive; the flow of this version of the game is awesome; and the variety of puzzles is great, regardless of what type of room you typically prefer. The room does have some minimally physical elements, so this would be something to consider if you have mobility issues. There were a couple of very minor administrative things that slightly impacted the game. First, as is typical for many rooms, a video is shown before the room giving instructions as to what you are and are not allowed to do in the room; however, one of the puzzles in this room requires that you perform an activity you are explicitly warned not to do during the video. It would be beneficial for this to be addressed before the room or somehow with instructions during gameplay, as we avoided this initially based on instructions. We also had some difficulty with one of the activities registering that we had completed the task, but we only had to work with it a little before we were able to proceed. I would definitely go this route with this room, as the other storyline of this room was the only bad experience in a room we have had with this company. This storyline, however, was one of the best.

Great room. I wish we could do both scenarios but we have a total of 11 rooms booked between Friday and Sunday. 9 of them with MER! We love their rooms. I would recommend more than 2 people for this room if you are a beginner. Very immersive. Highly recommend.

The subway set was so realistic, including the feeling of motion. The neat idea in this room is that it offered a choice of being the good or bad guys. That may have been a "big decision", but afterwards it still felt like a normal escape room. In palying, we realized how much we try to "game the system" and guess what is left in a room and what is going to happen next because there were obvious puzzles that it turned out we didn't need because they were for the other version.

For this game we picked no which is the good guys. You can technically play either game before the other one. This room was frustrating to play because a lot of the puzzles were mechanical and very finicky which was very frustrating. We had to do the puzzles more than once and then eventually the system would recognize we had did the puzzle correctly…we even asked the GM about it later and he said that’s just how the puzzles are in this part of the game

This room is so cool! It’s crazy how there are two totally different rooms in one room, based solely on your choices. We liked both versions a lot, and even doing them back to back it felt like 2 different rooms which was super cool. It does mean that this is a harder room because there’s a ton of stuff in the room that’s only related to one, but as long as you follow the story it works well.
