Permanently Closed - The Keeper has awakened. This only happens every 1,000 years when the evil Paxillus is released from his mushroom prison. Your team, The Guardians, must help our hero defeat this dreaded Mushroom King and save the people of this land. This is an interactive adventure set completely in a miniature world. It is a mixture of an escape room, role playing game, and is as much of a game as it is an experience (also with original music and songs). We can almost guarantee that you have never played anything quite like this. This is a live hosted game with a games master that you will assist and interact with. You will simply tell them what to do and what/who to interact with.

Simply delightful. An escape room inside of an immersive story that was built specifically to be played via Zoom. Not terribly difficult but the puzzles are clever and the way everything takes place inside the game world is fantastic. Includes some laugh-out-loud moments. Highest recommendation.

Such a joy to play! Especially great to play with escape friends who live elsewhere. The puzzles were light, the set was cute, the music was excellent, and the story was cohesive. I cannot recommend it enough!

So. Much. Fun(gus). A sweet, silly, fun, online game. So sad to see it close, and glad so many people got to experience it. I hope it comes back in some form. I played with two other adult players. Puzzles were straightforward, and could be done by school-age kids as well. The plot was fun, the music and lyrics were awesome and grin-inducing, and the puppetry just made the whole thing come together. Loved it.

Fun and unique experience online which our team enjoyed a lot. The follow up experience is even better and more fun. Brilliantly executed. Sad to see it leave though on the 30/08/2024. They are trying to make an automated version without somebody live controlling the puppet and the game in general.

This was a beautiful game clearly made from a lot of love and joy. The artist behind the craft has created an incredible, immersive experience that had us laughing, gasping, and cheering throughout the adventure. Fungus Among Us was such a blast that we immediately signed up for the prequel, Rise of the Fungi! I can't wait to see what comes next from Headlock in the clever, magical worlds concocted for us.

Having the chance to play ‘The Keeper and the Fungus Among Us’ before it ends later this month was a real treat. The music, the seamless cutscenes that blended perfectly with the live moments, and the humor throughout made it a standout online escape game that truly deserves the accolades it has received over the past few years. While it’s sad to see the game go (for now), it’s reassuring to hear that Joel plans to preserve it in some form for posterity. What excites me most is how the game maximizes the remote nature of the experience and utilizes mechanics and charm that would be impossible in an in-person escape room. I hope more games like this will emerge to continue the artistry of online escape games.

This was our first virtual escape room, and it was a blast. Joel was amazing and we were smiling ear to ear and laughing the entire time. The puzzles weren’t difficult but challenging enough to make you stop and think for a minute to two. The story, flow, and cut scenes were perfect.

The Keeper and the Fungus Among Us is the perfect experience to embark on with your long-distance escape room enthusiast friends. It's creative, hilarious, engaging, completely unique, and somehow handmade! D&D meets the Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Escape Rooms, it's a one-of-a-kind experience you'll want to try even if (unlike me) you're tired of virtual escape rooms now that in-person ones have re-opened. It's a 90-minute experience; our team of two finished in about 70 minutes and spent the remaining time with a behind-the-scenes tour from Joel where he showed us how he manages to make this magic happen and answered any questions we had. I'm so glad I heard Joel's interview with David and Peih-Gee on Reality Escape Pod and took the leap to try it out myself :) Thank you to Headlock Escape Rooms for creating such fun remote experiences! Accessibility: - Captions available during cut scenes :) - Multiple puzzles require the ability to differentiate colors - One puzzle might be difficult for someone with dyscalculia - Hearing people will get the most out of this experience given that it's musical, and that there's no captioning during live interaction, which accounts for the majority of the experience
