It was our second visit to this particular location (within a 3 day period 😆) while in Honolulu for our babymoon, and it exceeded ALL expectations!!! The game host (Clarisa) and front desk attendant were excellent and so very kind. They noticed my wife was pregnant and even wrote my us a super nice card while we were in the room and gave it to us with a nice little gift once we escaped. They were just all-around great people! The Gold Rush room itself was top-notch too, and is by far one of the best we’ve done. Not only was it super fun and interactive, but it was also one of the most “physical” and was just super clever all around. I really appreciated multiple of the puzzles and thought they were very clever/fun. Very well done, Escape Game Honolulu! We will certainly be talking about our experience with friends/family and recommending this company to all!
Timeliner: Train Through TimeThe Escape Game - HonoluluEscape roomIRLJay was a great game host and the escape room was challenging, fun and well polished per usual! We asked Jay to only give us a hint if we were really struggling or falling behind and he did a good job of holding off letting us work our Way through some trickier spots and only had to hint us once in the beginning and once at the very end when we totally overlook something. All in all a really fun time and we really liked the flow of Timeliner!
The Curious Case of Gillian GraceThe EscaperyEscape roomIRLFun room that we did with a large group with a large age range and skill level. Room was pretty nicely set up and had some clever puzzles and nice props and overall we had fun and escaped. That was the goal so no complaints here.
Raven's EyeAlaska Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLOne of the first escape rooms in Anchorage I believe, so pretty old and not super polished, definitely shows some wear and tear but overall puzzles were still clever and the experience was fun with nice GM and we escaped in the end so no complaints here.
FlushedHawaii Escape ChallengeEscape roomIRLThere are some other good longer reviews already so I won’t go into too much detail and say the same things. But the entrance was a little tricky to find for the place, but I guess if you can’t find it you shouldn’t be doing an escape room ha ha. Did this room with just my wife and it was our first escape room we’ve ever done separated. We started off slow but finally picked up some momentum and got out with plenty of time to spare. Nothing crazy good or bad and overall we had fun. Also it was cheaper than the other rooms so that worked for us as a last-minute decision.
The SanatoriumEscape AnchorageEscape roomIRLDecided to do this escape room last minute on our way back from Palmer. The owner was very accommodating to do it for us on short notice. Slightly different style room than we’ve done before but still clever and fun and came down to the wire with some clutch hints towards the end. Double check your numbers! It sounds like it is fairly common for her rooms to escape with less than a minute which we are OK with as we’d rather struggle through some puzzles and get just enough help at the right time to still escape in the end.
Lost City Of South DacotaBlack Hills Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLThis was a decent low budget escape room. Not my favorite, but still made me think outside of the box a little which is what we’re looking for. Unfortunately, what really detracted from the whole experience was the absolutely terrible service we received from the two girls working the front desk on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. They were very little help before the escape room itself and lackluster in general when it came to asking for hints/tips when they acted as if we were burdening them. They just wanted to sit there plying on their phones. But what really left a bad taste in my mouth was that after completing the room (and obviously being excited about completing it), both employees were incredibly rude. Instead of sharing in the excitement (which makes for an overall greater experience), they instead grilled me about why I removed an item from the wall. I had assumed that since a) it was loose and b) we used a different item from the wall, that removing the mirror was fair game. Again, we were stuck and I was trying to think outside of the box. Upon escaping the room, both young girls grilled me and were beyond disrespectful (to an embarrassing extent for this business). The blonde girl with a deep voice started interrogating me as to why the mirror was taken off the wall and I responded by stating that I'm used to previous escape rooms where if something doesn't come off the wall, it is screwed or very secure. This was literally hanging by a nail and came off easily. Then she continued to question and say “I told you nothing on the wall is used and not to take anything off” (even though that's a lie because we did use fish on the wall). She then asked again, for at least the third time “why did you take it off the wall?” as if trying to make me feel like an idiot and assert her dominance or something. Then I stated that it was because we weren't getting anywhere and I was trying everything possible, so I pulled it off the wall and I would've put it back on the wall, but the nail accidentally slid into the drywall. But after about 10 seconds of pulling on the nail/finagling with it a little more, I was able to re-hang it up on the wall. It absolutely was not a big deal and took 10 seconds to fix but the one employee sure made it as if it was a big deal. Overall, it made for a very unpleasant and uncomfortable situation after we were excited and happy to get out. Unfortunately this left a bad taste in our mouths and reflected poorly on the entire escape room/business due to the employees’ attitudes and unprofessional behavior. It’s very unfortunate that it’s hard to find good help these days and some young kids like this that have absolutely zero respect for others and make a big deal out of nothing. Hopefully this escape room will find some better employees which will make the overall experience more enjoyable for anyone who partakes down the road.
