Black and White CafeMindFox EscapeEscape roomIRLOh no! The color is gone from the world right when it’s PIPERS BIRTHDAY! So we went to the black and white cafe to save the world and celebrate her birthday, and guess what? We did BOTH! The room is very unique, the black and white was very cool. I regret not wearing black and white and insisting my family wear it as well just to be more immersive haha. It was pretty hard, but I think we are still beginners. We did have stress and asked for a couple hints but everyone kinda went around doing their thing and it ended up saving the world so… we rock n stuff … We are looking forward to trying Moriartys Manor for my birthday (as I am the Sherlock fan) Thanks to Joyce our GM !
The NeighborSteal and EscapeEscape roomIRLWe are beginners. This is our second escape room, so far we are 2 for 2 but I have picked rooms that the reviews have said are great fun and not too hard. Our “team” is mid-40’s mom and dad and two teen girls 13&14yo. My husband and I both grew up playing video games with no internet to look up how to do stuff, so I expect maybe we can solve puzzles pretty well in general, and our daughters are pretty quick too. Maybe we should have waited to do this room, because apparently it is very sophisticated and a rare gem, technology wise. We might be ruined for all the others now! The room was fantastic. It was packed with puzzles. Of course, I haven’t seen many, but wow the style and structure and tech of it was nothing short of amazing. I got my daughters started on puzzles (they figured out a lot on their own too) while I figured out others or studied things for later, and my husband was off looking in a whole different area, I feel like I could do it again since I missed so much- but there were times we HAD to converge and work together to finish goals which was also really fun! Great bonding time! We had a thrill all the way home! There were some puzzles that once started, would be appropriate to be finished by very young, smart kids. I think my 6yo nephew could have done two or three once an adult had figured out what to do, maybe if you have a kid in your party, that will help you decide. I would say four people plus a kid if you do that though, you’ll have to stay with them to help. The other people will be busy for sure too!
WesternLockdown Escape Rooms - HillcrestEscape roomIRLWe just finished this escape room. It was our first one ever! We chose it because the reviews said it was better for beginners. You get three hints if you want them, and we did use one at the end because we were running out of time but we did escape with four minutes left. Two adults and two kids aged 13&14. Was exciting and fun the whole time. Took brains and ingenuity. Very fun.
Winchester Mystery House - Mansion TourWinchester Mystery House HauntOther If you have a chance or if you are going through San Jose, make a point to stop at the Winchester Mystery House! It is very neat! The sprawling “home” is located in a normal looking city, next to apartments, but it is like nothing you have ever seen. If you have watched “Stephen King’s Rose Red” you might know it was loosely based off of this home, and the heiress Sarah Winchester. The home is huge. There aren’t any spoilers about that, there are thousands of beautiful windows, intricate detailing, state of the art in its day, and not a penny pinched on detail and decor choices. The wallpaper! It was GORGEOUS. The woodwork! The stairs! The flooring! Everywhere I looked, my artists heart was soaring. The place was decorated with era accurate furniture and of course I was drooling. AND it is said to be haunted. We caught a picture that looks kinda spooky, my husband is more convinced than I am. We were out back at the Carpenter’s or black smith area and they have a light there that was on, and we were about to go find our two girls who were 12&13 at the time, they had wandered further on to look at something else- and we were joking that “if theres a ghost, shut off this light.” And the light went off. I’m not kidding at all. And we were kinda like oh that’s a fluke that’s a fluke if there’s really a ghost turn the light back on, and it turned on- and we ran off to find the kids because they are all into it and had their ghost meter things and brought them back and of course it didn’t do it again but it was pretty cool, I haven’t had something like that happen before. We did a whole “ghost Christmas” type thing for the kids in 23. They also had different tours that included spookier parts of the home, so we ended up taking two tours in one day and we left for lunch in the middle. It was worth it and still very interesting and the kids were a bit annoyed but I enjoyed both. The spookier one was more entertaining for my lil ghost hunters (because catering towards that type of thing) and the regular tour was informational and I very much enjoyed it. But I enjoyed both, very much. And I loved looking at all the detail! Every inch of that place was incredible.
