Mr Pepper’s Toy ShopThe Cipher Room St PetersEscape roomIRLI had heard amazing word of mouth reviews of cipher rooms and particularly Mr Pepper's Toy Shop even from my home in another state and it certainly lives up to the expectations. This is just one of those rooms that you have to play if you're in the Sydney area and you like escape rooms. It features a very camp horror theme and drives it further than I've ever seen before through the use of some very unique tech and wonderful application of the venue's space. These elements come together and leave a sense of wonder in your eyes at what is possible inside an escape room. If you're lucky enough to have Callum as your game master, then I believe you have been blessed. He was kind, charming and gave us the kind of positive experience you don't forget. Please play this game, you'll leave pondering the possibilities of escape room design and knowing that people out there are definitely pushing this industry to new limits.
La RébellionThe Cipher Room St PetersEscape roomIRLBefore I begin my review of the room, I'd like to firstly give a shout out to Ace, my game master. Ace was incredible from start to finish, they created an excellent atmosphere before the game has even begun and very clearly went over everything we'd need to know. Finally, they chimed in at the perfect times to provide assistance when we were falling a little behind, which resulted in us finishing just before time ran out. Thank you once again, Ace! Your love for escape rooms shines in the way you do your job. As for the room itself, this has taken up the mantle as my favourite game in Sydney, and I don't think it'll be losing that place anytime soon. The theming of the room draws from many historical timeframes all at once to create a very content rich experience. At times I felt like a part of the French revolution in the 1700's, later on I felt like a french spy during the world wars and for a moment, I felt I had taken on the role of an unlucky citizen caught in an attack on the city. It's for memorable moments like these that we play escape rooms. After 1 or 2 years people are likely to forget the puzzles themselves, but they'll always remember those moments that captured their attention. This game was absolutely full of these moments, and the puzzles were simply the mechanics to flow you into those moments with a sense of achievement. While this room contains a large amount of puzzles that I thoroughly enjoyed, years from now I will remember the wonderful time I had, and the many personas I took on along the way. Thank you for this experience.

Forest of EchoesNext Level EscapeEscape roomIRLThe Forest of Echoes is an escape room unlike any I've had the chance to do before. Honestly, this is far more like stepping into a Dungeons and Dragons Game for a 1-shot campaign with a very skilled game master. Built around one central mechanic inside a large room, this game allows you to explore and play at your own pace. The 90 minute timeframe seems both generous and required, as this game contains a lot of interaction that takes time. That time however, is absolutely not wasted time. This room was jam-packed with some extremely unique puzzles that take advantage of a central game mechanic and an enriching story to tie them all together. Additionally, our game master Chris had an amazing dedication to the work. The game masters are very involved in this game, through play their own skillsets and personal flare really come to light. Next time I'm in Sydney, you better believe I'll be back for the rest of these games! I'd recommend anyone else do the same.
