➕ Beautiful handwriten notes and artifacts. They are simply gorgeous to look at and helps to elevate the experience of playing the game. ➕ Well-designed puzzles. The game had a gradual difficulty curve, easing players into the game and its puzzles. There were many instances of clever use of artifacts and drawings in puzzle-solving. ➕ Hints system is decent. Decent hint system with multiple hints available before revealing the solution. ✖️ Structure of the game leads to some issues. The game's structure, with puzzles tied to poems, limits the use of some physical puzzles and may exclude non-English-speaking players. ✖️ One of the puzzles was too convoluted, potentially causing frustration for players. "Adrift" stands out with its stunning artwork and unique approach to storytelling through puzzles. It is recommended for both puzzle enthusiasts and beginners looking for a captivating and aesthetically pleasing experience.
Baker's Dozen
Hunt a Killer

➕ Abundance of Cool Trinkets: The game's trinkets add an enjoyable tactile aspect to the experience, although they might inflate the price unnecessarily. ➕ Intriguing Story: Investigating the documents and uncovering motives was enjoyable and engaging. ✖️ Single Decisive Evidence: The game's major drawback is the reliance on a single piece of evidence to eliminate all but one suspect. This design choice leaves little room for nuanced deduction and diminishes the overall experience. While "Baker's Dozen" provides a decent experience of sifting through clues and piecing together a mystery, its heavy reliance on a solitary piece of evidence to narrow down the suspect pool is a significant flaw. Coupled with the high price point, it's difficult to recommend this game unless it's available at a discounted price.

➕ Diverse Puzzle Variety: Box ONE offers a wide range of puzzle types, including trivia, "connect the dots," logical challenges, and lateral thinking puzzles. The diversity keeps the experience engaging and fresh. ➕ Innovative Puzzles: The intricately designed box delivers several surprises and "aha" moments as you progress through the challenges. The puzzles are both creative and impressive. ➖ Time-Gated Puzzles: Some puzzles require answers to be input at specific time periods, which can be a drawback when playing in a group, potentially leading to time constraints. One puzzle even necessitates a day-long wait to proceed, which extends the overall playtime. ✖️ Potential for Spoilers: Experienced escape room enthusiasts might be tempted to explore the entire box in advance, potentially stumbling upon puzzles and solutions ahead of schedule. This can diminish the surprise and suspense of the game. To maximize the experience, it's advisable to approach the puzzles step by step. Box ONE is an enjoyable and unique puzzle adventure suitable for players of all levels, from beginners to seasoned escape room enthusiasts. The game offers intriguing challenges and surprises that captivate players from start to finish. To fully appreciate the experience, it's best to tackle the puzzles one at a time and avoid spoiling the surprises.
Case Closed
Case Closed Edinburgh
Escape room
IRL
Case Closed deserves a perfect score in our books—a definite must-try if you find yourself in Edinburgh. Our only minor quibble is the occasional simplicity of some puzzles. Should they ever craft a room tailored for escape room enthusiasts, it would undoubtedly earn a coveted spot on our bucket lists.
cQ Origenes
clueQuest
Escape room
IRL
"clueQuest: cQ Origenes" offers an enjoyable and immersive escape room experience, with intricately layered puzzles and advanced technology integration. Our recommendation is to play with a larger group (4 or more) to facilitate more efficient searching and puzzle-solving. Despite minor issues, it remains a highly recommended experience.

➕Superb bang for your buck. The game is well playable with 6 players and we took ~3.5 hours to complete it. That's $7.50/pax for 3.5 hours of entertainment! ➕Immersive and spooky story. The story was well-made and easy to digest as they're staggered throughout the game. The use of the location tiles accentuated the feeling of being the investigator exploring the house. ➕Crazy good puzzles. The puzzles are SO varied, unique and interesting it's unbelievable it's priced this low. It gave us a handful of "a-ha" moments and none of the puzzles fell flat or unfair. The difficulty of the game hit the sweet spot with us being a group of experienced and beginner players. ➖Some fiddly components. We would've preferred a sturdier version of it but it's a hard ask given the price of the game. ➖Not resettable. Due to the nature of the answer system and puzzles, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to gift this game away once you're done with it. Hands down this is one of my favourite escape room games I've ever played. With fantastic puzzle design, engaging story and amazing table prescence, it's a must play for anyone who has a slight interest in puzzles or escape rooms.
Curtain Call
Hunt a Killer

➕ Well-Made Physical Components: The documents and letters in the game appear handwritten and authentic to the 1930s era, enhancing the immersive experience. The inclusion of trinkets adds to the game's charm. ➕ Engaging Story: Exploring the lives of characters in the 1930s and their connection to the theater world is fascinating and adds depth to the narrative. ➖ Cursive Handwriting Challenges: The cursive handwriting in some documents can be challenging to read, necessitating the use of transcripts on a computer, which detracts from the immersive aspect. ✖️ Minimal Deduction Required: Many pieces of evidence are provided with answers that are almost too straightforward, reducing the need for deductive reasoning. It would be more satisfying if more deduction were required. ✖️ Overabundance of Coded Messages: The game includes numerous coded messages that require substantial time to decipher, leading to busywork that may become tedious. "Hunt A Killer: Curtain Call" offers an engaging story with immersive props, but it may not be worth the high price point. The abundance of coded messages and the lack of deduction required to solve the case can make the experience feel repetitive and time-consuming. While the physical components are well-crafted, the gameplay could benefit from more challenging puzzles and less busywork.
Danger in the Deep

➕ Good components. The game boasts high-quality components that lend an authentic and premium feel to the experience. ➕ Good variety of puzzles. There's a pleasing variety of puzzles, many of which are unique and not typically found in other games. These puzzles cover a wide range of mental challenges, engaging various aspects of your problem-solving abilities. ➕ Difficult yet satisfying puzzles. The puzzles are delightfully difficult yet immensely satisfying. They offer a logical challenge, delivering those sought-after "a-ha" moments when solutions finally click into place. ✖️ Single play restriction. Due to the scratch-off system, the game is designed for one-time use only, which may deter some players. The greatest strength of "Danger in the Deep" lies in its impeccably designed puzzles. Each puzzle is well-crafted, fair, and encourages players to think creatively. While the challenges can be tough, the hint system is there to guide you when needed. In conclusion, this game is an easy recommendation. Don't let the single-play limitation dissuade you, as "Danger in the Deep" promises an immensely enjoyable experience, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned escape room enthusiast.

In my opinion, I would not recommend this room if you're assigned the observer role. However, I still had a moderately enjoyable experience, and my group seemed to have fun with it, so preferences may vary. Fortunately, their other escape rooms, "Museum of Mankind" and "Shangri-La," do not feature an observer role, and I am looking forward to trying them out. Additionally, your admission includes free access to the rest of the Science Centre, so consider exploring it before or after your game!

I really enjoyed my time playing Espionage from The Cipher Room! I would consider it to be more on the easier side of escape rooms and would recommend beginners and families to try it out! Even seasoned enthusiasts will have a kick playing this room. Furthermore, it's not scary whatsoever so it appeals to everyone!
