The Forest of FablesCU Adventures in Time and SpaceEscape roomIRLPossibly the best escape room I have ever played!! The room design/decor was awe-inspiring and super interactive, and the storyline was unique and engaging! I have already recommended this room to friends, family, and some strangers!
Murder at the Queen’s HotelEscapetown - BloomingtonEscape roomIRLThis room was interesting; the plot was exciting and the gameplay had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, a lot of the puzzles required random jumps in logic or even just plain guessing, and it made some of the rooms frustrating. There also was an aspect of messing up some of the room (required to solve a puzzle) that went against standard escape room etiquette, and thus it took our team a long time to solve since we did not want to disturb the set. Overall, we still enjoyed the storyline and special effects in the room, but we would have liked to see better flow from the puzzles and gameplay.
Cabin of the Cackling ManPOP-UP Escape RoomsEscape roomPop upI played this room with my friends and two groups of strangers at AnimeMagic in Chicago, and while I initially found the set-up (playing with 10 people, most of whom are strangers to each other) a bit chaotic, in the end I did enjoy the room. It took our group almost a half hour to really start figuring things out, but once we began solving clues, we began working together more smoothly, accepted a few hints from our GM, and ended up just barely ‘winning’ the room! Pros: - fun storyline! Loved the multiple endings option - a couple “puzzle” sites for larger groups to split up and search for solutions on their own before reconvening - impressive for a ‘mobile’ escape room! One room, but set up for that to work with the theme and be filled with clues even on temp walls Cons: - challenging to find harmony with such a large group of strangers. I understand the need to max out the capacity, but it certainly made it harder to feel like a functional team - some of the technology didn’t work, so the GM had to come in and mess with puzzles and locks a couple times, which did take away from the story immersion - the nature of the puzzles meant that people couldn’t experience everything the room offered, as some people had to accomplish one task while some did others, so some of the storyline was lost to a large portion of the group Overall, a good experience for a traveling escape room! Could make some improvements, but I would definitely do another with this company 👍
