The Curse Of The Black Knight
EscapeX Rooms - Irvine
Escape room
IRL
I understand now why this room got so many positive reviews⌠This room did SUCH a great job at its immersion, creativity, and game play without being distracting. Definitely one of the best linear medieval-themed escape rooms around here, and there was a lot of attention to detail too. We had a lot of fun âA-haâ moments, and I cannot say enough about the set design and architecture!! This escape room was a prime example of how to utilize your Physical Space, and they did just that!
The Sheepshank Redemption
Laraâs Labyrinth - San Diego [prev. Quest Room]
Escape room
IRL
Remember, you âget busy living or get busy dying.â (Andy Dufresne). The Sheepshank Redemption was a very interactive and busy escape room, but I truly had a great time with this one! Its theme is similar to the film, Shawshank Redemption, but you donât necessarily need knowledge of the film to escape. What Sheepshank Redemption does well is its blend of storytelling with puzzles and the added pressure of being in a cell block. The puzzles were semi non-linear but made sense with the story of where and why. Itâs a split-start beginning which tests your teamwork and communication skills, and the linear gameplay was a nice touch. The ending was creative and worked well with your mission. I will admit, this escape room is VERY puzzle heavy and can be tedious if you arenât paying attention. You truly have to listen or you might miss some of the tasks at hand, but I would highly recommend Sheepshank Redemption!

The Weeping Witch
Cross Roads Escape Games

What a spooky magical room! It was quite âBewitchingâ and to play it on Valentines Day too was extra special and fun! Words cannot describe The Weeping Witch! What Cross Roads Escape Games does well with their rooms is intertwining their storytelling with special and thematic effects while maintaining a consistent and fun gameplay, and this room did just that! The spooky voodoo ambiance was impressive and had a perfect blend of jump scares, high tech and lock-and-key puzzles, and smooth transitions. If youâre worried about being scared in this room, the scares are predictable as to when the Weeping Witch will appear, but still beautifully crafted with a strong set design full of laughs, scares, and surprises. The hint system was very interactive and SO much fun!
Haunted Mansion
Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland Resort
Haunt
Haunted house
Such a fun, spooky attraction at the Disneyland Resort! Not necessarily âscary,â but this is a dark attraction with dim lighting, but lots to see and enjoy. This is always a classic to ride during the holidays (Halloween, Christmas time) because they will transform this attraction into The Nightmare Before Christmas theme!
Prison Break
The Escape Game - Orange
Escape room
IRL
We had SO much fun in Prison Break! We couldnât help but cell-abrate when we finally escaped. Lol. This escape room had a very unique way of starting off the game where we truly had to rely on our teamwork, communication, and listening skills due to the Bars In Between. The puzzles were more mechanical and lock-and-key than high tech, but with the high tech puzzles that were present, it did a great job at not taking away from the experience of âescapingâ a prison break. Due to the physical space, I would recommend a team of 4-8 players in total. Itâs just enough for the players to interact with the clues and with each other while also not overcrowding one another either. The set design was truly immaculate in Prison Break! We even needed a hint to know where to go next because the set design was so immersive, unique, and detailed. Itâs one of those rooms where you feel that everything is bigger on the inside than the outside, and this escape room did not disappoint! If youâre ready for a fun Escape, you need to go play Prison Break with your group! Just remember, donât take things too Prison-ally.
Pinocchio
Escapade Games
Escape room
IRL
âTheyâve got no strings on me!â Words cannot describe how much fun this room was to play! To those of you who are new to âscaryâ themed escape rooms, this would be the perfect one for you. What this escape room does well is the smooth blending of puzzles with the experience of a live actor and the integration of puzzles within storytelling. I would describe this as more of an experience than your typical escape room, but this is what makes it more interactive and exhilarating! There is a live actor, but the most the actor will do is physically move/place you. He will never drag or engage in full contact play like other escape rooms will. After coming from Krampus (the Christmas version of Zoe Reborn at Escapades), Pinocchio is very tame in comparison. If youâre looking for a fun starter to a scary escape room, go play Pinocchio! It will leave you laughing, running, and wanting more!
Ink & Ashes
Exodus Escape Room
Escape room
IRL
I hope that youâre ready to ink-vestigate! Because this escape room is such an underrated, hidden gem in SoCal that youâll escape, wanting more! Even though this is the only room at Exodus in Tustin, Ink and Ashes has made a name for itself through its integration of puzzles, story driven narrative, and linear conquest. This is your classic Whodunnit game but with a mixture of high tech puzzles, added special effects, and suspense. I cannot say enough about the set design of this room. Itâs truly un-fire-gettable! Ink and Ashes created such an immersive experience of mystery without the need of an intense scare factor to drive the story and the tasks that you needed to complete in order to solve the case. Once again, if youâre looking for a suspenseful (not scary), story driven mystery with a skill level of medium-hard, this is the room for you!
Playground
The Escape Game - Orange
Escape room

Are you smarter than a 4th grader? Nowâs your chance to test it out! Playground is such a joy and truly brings out your inner child. Between the props, the set design, and the sounds, it brings you back to the day when your homework was reading and coloring. I would highly recommend this room to anyone! If youâre a beginner to escape rooms, this would be a great room to start with here at The Escape Game! Just a heads up that this room is puzzle heavy, but it has the perfect blend between different puzzle types (gen 1, lock and key, mechanical) that familiarizes you with the basic puzzle knowledge of escape rooms and constantly keeps you on your toes. This room also is non-scary, playful, easy to follow, and really tests your observation and teamwork skills. We played with a group of 9 players (out of 12 max). Originally it was just my friend and I, but other players ended up joining us. Be aware that The Escape Room only has public booking, so you may be paired with other individuals. Playground has multiple rooms and is rather big in space, but can feel a little cramped due to it being puzzle heavy and the amount of players in one physical space at once. Playground isnât just for beginners; itâs for different skill levels and escape room enthusiasts alike. There was never a point where you were standing around with nothing to do. Everything was cohesive, the tasks were clear, and there were many special a-ha moments. Once again, are you smarter than a 4th grader? Play this room and find out for yourself!
Krampus' Lair
Escapade Games
Escape room
IRL
One thingâs for sure, you donât want to be on Krampusâs list! If you find yourself being bad this year and hijacked to Krampusâ lair, I hope you have enough confidence and skills to escape. Haha. This escape room was a perfect immersion of puzzles, physical movement, the use of a live actor(s), and teamwork. We had a lot of fun playing this together because of how immersive, intense, and suspenseful it was! Once again, the live actors did not harm any of us, but they did grab, pull, and drag you as this is a full contact experience. (But all fun and games!) I played this with a large group of people, and we chose normal mode (no tasers, but lights out and full physical contact). If youâre new to escape rooms and donât have a lot of experience with horror themed escape rooms, I would recommend normal mode. If youâre looking for a festive horror themed escape room with a large group of players, get yourself on the naughty list and be transported to Krampusâ Lair! Youâll never want to be a naughty kid ever again!
The Last Supper
Quest Tavern
Escape room
IRL
Are you ready to âwhineâ and dine with a medieval Lord? I hope you are because youâre in for a special treat! Words cannot describe how much I loved The Last Supper! It is less of a puzzle-focused escape room, but more of an immersive theatrical experience through storytelling, suspense, and puzzles. The puzzles themselves werenât difficult to solve, but it definitely became more challenging due to the pressure that you feel from the live actor and the immersion of the room. Do you have what it takes to skip a meal and escape the Last Supper? This room does have a live actor, and it is one of the fun parts about this escape room! My friends and I are still laughing to this day because our Lord was very witty, intense, and kept us on our toes! The hint system was also very âbrightâ and we had a great time utilizing it when we needed help. If youâre looking for a thrilling, immersive, theatrical escape room experience, this is the one for you. This room is everything that players rave about, and it did not disappoint! So be our guest, and dine at The Last Supper!
