90s NostalgiaBoxed In Escape RoomsEscape roomIRL90s Nostalgia is the most fun I've ever had in an escape room. Puzzles, atmosphere, surprises, gameplay, they are just all so awesome. I can't imagine loving a room more than this one, but I'm sure if it ever happens, it'll be back at Boxed In.
Sweet Lou's Great Candy CaperBoxed In Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLBoxed In hands down has the best all-around escape rooms I've done. But Sweet Lou (especially next to 90s Nostalgia and Sasquatch) left me wanting a little more. I wouldn't recommend it for more than two people as there's not much in the way of simultaneous puzzle solving; the ending felt a bit abrupt too. If you go into this room expecting Boxed In Lite, you'll still have a great time and Sweet Lou is still leagues better than 90% of what else is out there. Just don't expect a room on the level of their others.
The Brain Experiment [prev. The Institute]Trapology BostonEscape roomIRLPerfect for my party of two, but I wouldn't want to do this with more than three (I found the story fairly linear without a ton that can be done concurrently, and the physical space is tight). Cool, varied mechanics, more of an emphasis on logic than the average room. All in all a very solid experience!
The PrisonFox in a Box ChicagoEscape roomIRLFirst of all, our game master Marina was unbelievably awesome. But they were the best thing about this room. It's a bit of a padlock fest and there's nothing all that challenging or exciting about it except the very beginning. For people new to escape rooms, I'm sure it's great. But if your standards are high, you may find this one disappointing.
Cask Of AmontilladoLockBreaker EscapesEscape roomIRLDespite being a single small room, the puzzles were varied and clever with neat tech. They adapt the difficulty based on your party's desires and my group of two adults and two kids had a wonderful time. Pickings are slim Bellingham and I think this is the place.
The Case of the Missing TrainAdventures of IntrigueEscape roomIRLAdventures of Intrigue is doing something different and their passion for it is clear. The building was designed with lots of thought and care and the staff are awesome. The train adventure was all linear, all padlocks, and very little puzzle solving -- I craved more of a challenge with my group of two adults, but this would be an incredible place to get kids excited about the escape room scene. I'm looking forward to watching AoI evolve!
