I can't get over how smart this room design was! One of my biggest pet peeves in escape rooms is when they try to design a room that they don't actually have the space and/or means to create and "Outage: No Vacancy" is a masterclass in how an escape room can make the most out of a limited amount of space. This room was very small BUT the gameplay was still very fun and immersive because of the unique theme. If you are looking for a room that has a super elaborate set, do one of the other rooms at "The Escape Ventures" but if you are looking for a room that will challenge your puzzle solving skills in a different way, I would definitely recommend this one!
I really liked the gameplay of this room because I've never played another game that was completely dark. The puzzles were definitely challenging in this room in a way that I'm not used to and I loved it!
60% of this room takes place in complete darkness. The part of the room that doesn't take place in complete darkness is very small but still well designed and immersive. The part of the room that is in darkness is still immersive but obviously not visually impressive.
All of the employees at this location were super welcoming and helpful!
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
I have heard of other dark games out there but this is the first one that I've played and it was a very new experience for me!
The storyline was not super unique but it was effective in driving the action forward in the room.
The part of this room that takes part in the light is not super challenging but the part of this room that takes place in the dark is very difficult. The puzzles themselves are doable but it definitely engages a different part of the brain than usual. Nudges from the game master in this room feel pretty necessary because it is very easy to miss small details when you can't see anything.
There's isn't a ton of tech in this room but there also aren't a lot of physical locks. Most of the puzzles in this room are very kinesthetic (for obvious reasons).
The space is very small. There were three of us in the group and that felt like a good amount. It would be feasible to do this room with 2-4 people in my opinion.
This game is definitely a spooky theme but there aren't any jump scares that I can remember and there are no live actors within the game. The Escape Ventures definitely has scarier rooms and if you're fine in "Neighborhood Watcher" or "Cornstalkers" then you will be fine in this.
This room has a spooky theme but no inappropriate content.
Physically active
Crawling is required for all team members. Many of the puzzles require touch but not any strenuous activity.
Accessibility
I would not recommend this game for people with mobility restrictions. Crawling is required and it would be a safety hazard to navigate this room in the dark with mobility restrictions.
I don't recall any puzzles that required color or hearing.
