Skunkwater, Arizona, 1880's Artifacts and stone carvings in the area have led to speculation about an ancient civilization that lived here long ago. Legend says there was a temple entrance hidden among the hills. During the day, at the right time, the sun would enter the temple and reveal a great secret and treasure to those that were worthy. Locals believe this explains the disappearance of an odd fellow named Carter. The lore recounts that Carter found the entrance and quickly built his store to conceal it while attempting to get the treasure for himself. But Sirtet, who guards the treasure, found him unworthy. The treasure remains. Make it to the temple at the right time to claim the treasure!

This room was very well themed and had a good story line. The puzzles were not too challenging but there was plenty to do for our group of 5.

Gameplay

Puzzles flowed well. Non linear game play.

Atmosphere

Fairly immersive design. Doors from one room to the next were well hidden.

Customer service

Catherine was very nice.

We traveled an hour to play and were severely disappointed by the room. There is no indication of where to start, first off. I’m normally totally fine with this if it’s a non linear room, however, this wasn’t that. After they clearly tell us not to use excessive force in the room, you then have to pull somewhat decently to get things off the wall to use for the first puzzle. This caused us to use a lot of time since we try not to ask for too much help (I’m not above clues, but I shouldn’t be using a clue for that). Some of the technology didn’t function correctly either. All in all, I couldn’t even enjoy the design of the room, which was beautiful, because the puzzles were infuriating. The design was beautiful, but some of the props, mainly the technology, didn’t function well/properly. This was a time consuming puzzle and for it not to work caused a lot of time to be wasted. Staff was nice but did absolutely nothing when we told them we didn’t enjoy the room. Seemed like they just wanted us out as quickly as possible. We weren’t asking for anything, by the way, but it would’ve been nice to pass on some frustrations with the company so they could potentially do something about it. I really wanted to like this room, but there’s no way.

I enjoyed the experience of the room. However, none of the puzzles felt overwhelmingly hard. The story itself was also slightly confusing, but the rooms were well themed.

It had a lot of traditional locks and physical puzzles. There were some high tech things that were sensor based but most of the puzzles were physically pushing buttons or unlocking boxes.

Accessibility

There were some areas that were a bit tight and may have been difficult for people with mobility issues. There was also one key puzzle that relied on being able to verbally communicate which could be an issue for those who are hard of hearing.

CHATCOTAG was a game with incredible set design. The rooms were all beautifully detailed from top to bottom, and totally sold the Indiana Jones story from beginning to end. However, the rooms didn’t feel as full of puzzles as I wanted, and the puzzles that were there felt a little too simplistic. There were a few good ones, including one really fun communication puzzle, but by the time the room ended I was left wanting more (especially since the ending was incredibly abrupt, and I don’t think anyone expected that we were solving the last puzzle). This is a game I would recommend to smaller groups and people who want to see some really cool spaces, and who are ok with more of an experience and less of a puzzle adventure.

First, our game master was amazing! She did an awesome job and that was the best part of the experience. The game was very expansive and had great theming but it definitely was a challenge to complete with just two people. We got stuck a few times because some things just didn’t make sense to us or sometimes something would get revealed and we didn’t hear or see it.

Very fun overall. Amy was a great Game Master. Design and artwork was top notch. Game interaction was good. A few of the reveals were not obvious, causing delays and confusion when we solved a puzzle but noticed no reveals (one reveal failed, requiring the GM to pause the time and intervene). Still, a very solid room. Thank you!

Although we’ve done similarly themed rooms, this room felt unique, fresh, comical, light-hearted & entertaining. The guidance of a lengthy journal was not required. As a result, we could all focus on enjoying the puzzles, as opposed to a teammate spending the game reading.
