The old Frank M. Heights apartment building lost funding during its remodel nearly a decade ago and has since sat abandoned. Rumors say a horror fiction-obsessed murderer uses the building as his playground for twisted acts of torture. When a bad storm rolls through, you can almost hear screams coming from the building over the sounds of thunder. It’s time to find out if there’s any truth to the tales within. Just as you pass the 'No Trespassing' signs, you look up to find a terrible thunderstorm approaching. Once inside, you follow whispers from the walls; echoes from a victim captured by the deranged squatter that holds dominance over this forgotten town eyesore. You quickly become the next plaything to the murder-obsessed individual, locked in a closet like sitting ducks awaiting your fate. Welcome to “ECHOES AT MURDER HEIGHTS”!

This room was a last minute addition to our Florida escape room trip but I'm so glad that we added it to the itinerary! I wasn't expecting this game to be as scary as it was and as a horror fan, I loved it. I would highly recommend this room but I will warn you that it is less "tech-y" than many of the other rooms in Orlando.

Gameplay

The puzzles were fun but there were times when the non-linear nature of this room was a bit more confusing than anything else. It wasn't always clear which puzzle should be tackled next. There were also a couple of puzzles that felt as if they could use some retouching (specifically one where our team had to hold pieces in place because they wouldn't stay on their own).

Atmosphere

The atmosphere wasn't super elaborate or high tech but it was effective at conveying the location and driving the story forward.

Customer service

The GM was welcoming and helpful throughout the room. I think that my biggest gripe with this escape room was the fact that they still use walkie talkies to give hints...we kept having to ask for hints to be repeated because we couldn't hear them. The GM was great but the hint system could stand an update.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

I've done games with similar themes before but this game was more interactive.

Story

The story was relatively generic but the design and interactive nature of the game make this room stand apart from the others.

Difficulty

Hard

Our team found this game to be pretty challenging specifically because we didn't always know which puzzle to work on next. It was also pretty easy to miss important details in this room which tripped us up a couple of times.

Game tech

Mechanical

The majority of this room is comprised of physical locks.

Ideal number of players

4

The rooms in this game are pretty small. I wouldn't recommend more than 4 people for this game.

Scary

Scary

I didn't know how interactive this game was when we signed up. I expected this room to be spooky but not scary and it was more intense than I had anticipated. It's not the scariest room that I've ever done but it's probably in the top 10 scariest that I've done. It was a nice surprise because I love scary rooms!

Minimum age

14

This room would have scared me when I was younger and I probably wouldn't have been able to focus on any of the puzzles. I would probably recommend 16+ but maybe younger if the person really likes horror and isn't bothered by haunted houses.

Was anything broken?

No

Nothing was completely broken but some aspects of this room could certainly stand to be retouched.

Live actors

Yes

There is no touching/chasing but there are a couple of jump scares.

Physically active

Somewhat

All members of the party must be able to crawl into one of the rooms.

Accessibility

I would not recommend this room for players with mobility restrictions due to the small spaces and the crawling that is required of all players. Some puzzles utilize color and some puzzles utilize sound.

This is for sure a good room and I would be happy if every room I played were as good as this one. There were a couple of things I didn’t care for and a couple I really liked. I didn’t realize there were going to be live actors in the room until after I booked it (which is my fault, not the establishments), so I was not in the proper mindset, which I feel did affect my enjoyment, again my fault not theirs. I would recommend.

Gameplay

It was good, some interesting puzzles. A few multi step puzzles, which I enjoy in a room.

Atmosphere

Creepy and tight. Similar style theming as to most serial killer rooms with the exception of the first room. Nothing to complain about and nothing out of the ordinary to call attention to, but it is well themed.

Customer service

Treated well. However, it did seem a bit understaffed for the amount of groups that were there. Took awhile for staff to come to counter and get us into the room. Not a big deal though because we got our full time.

Particularly interesting or different

No

Not really. Nothing bad just nothing I had not seen before with the exception of one puzzle (which I did enjoy quite a bit)

Story

Pretty decent story

Some parts are pretty tight and I’m not sure there is enough to work on at once with more than 4.

Scary

Scary

Definitely scary and the scary parts were well done. There is definitely one scary part that COULD be over the line for SOME groups.

Minimum age

13

I don’t know how well your kids take to horror/scares. Mine do just fine but this is too much for MOST kids. Plus, the set design is just not kid friendly.

Was anything broken?

No

I’m not sure, there was one puzzle I thought was broken but the rest of my group did not think it was broken. Either way it was solvable for us. And there is a really good chance it was intentional, which did make sense for the room. Hard to explain without spoiling.

Live actors

Yes

There was a live actor through out the game, which did enhance the experience.

Physically active

Somewhat

There is a part everyone will have to climb over something

Accessibility

I’m guessing there is a by-pass for the part people have to climb over, but I would check with the staff. A bit too tight for wheel chairs as well I’m guessing. Again I would contact the staff first.

Really unsure what all the praise for this room is about. Puzzles were all very generic “find the code for this lock”. Puzzles where I’m arbitrarily organizing things to get a word or numeric code for every single puzzle is just so very overdone and outdated. Escape rooms need to be far more creative than essentially solving a giant crossword puzzle. The only interesting aspect was a live actor to add some suspense. Otherwise very much not recommended.

Clever puzzles and a good set design, just needed a bit more signposting/instruction built into the rooms. There was a specific puzzle we never would have gotten without some nudging, so not intuitive since there was no aha! moment, just kinda “I guess so” and move on. There were a few jump scares but my husband and I both felt as though actor interaction would’ve really driven up the fun in this one. There was one specific puzzle that my husband and I both loved and couldn’t help but crack up over. We still talk about it frequently because it was so funny and so clever. The ending sequence on this one walked so that Pins and Needles could run, but it was still enjoyable!

Our groups first room at America’s Escape Room, Echoes at Murder Heights was nothing short of bone chilling and fun from start to finish. This game balances thick ambience with excellent puzzle flow and use of props. If you have any aversion to horror themes for any reason, I strongly advise against you playing this game. If you love being scared, startled, and proverbially pushed into your discomfort zone, this experience is for you. Who among you will be sacrificed?

The entire experience was great. Me and my girlfriend got out over time. Our GM gave us a few minutes to finish because we were basically done. Made the world of a difference! The jump scares were great. Can’t wait to go back for another room.

So fun! Tinge of scary made the puzzles that much more fun to solve as we try to escape!
