This room was a very challenging (for 3 players), somewhat non-linear room, that meets the high standards of The Escape Game. The puzzles are very fun and support the plot of the game. We were told that the Grapevine location has two mirror-image rooms of The Heist. Highly recommended.
Excellent. The puzzles all supported the overall plot, were challenging, and plentiful. The game did flow well, but we got caught up a couple of times by having a solution (i.e. 3 or 4 digit codes) but were unsure which "lock" to enter them into. For us that always enters in the ambiguity of whether we have the right/wrong code or are trying to enter it into the wrong "lock". Rebuilding the room, though, it did flow well overall.
The set design was VERY well done to support the story. The Escape Game doesn't skimp on equipment so it all supported the plot perfectly. Special effects made the puzzles fun. Stepping into the room you ARE in a room of an art museum.
Our GM, Jake, did an outstanding job of moving us through the game. He did a perfect job of seeing when we were stuck and nudging us along with appropriate help.
Particularly interesting or different
Yes
There were a number of different parts to this room overall which made solving it interesting. In the end it was a do 1, then 2, then 3 to escape but the design of the room made it a fun game to play.
There were A LOT of puzzles in this room. There were times where we had puzzles solved and multiple options for where to apply the solution. A lot of the items in the room got used, and there were a lot of items in the room. A couple of the puzzles could have been solved in multiple ways which made them more challenging. With 3 people and no GM we would have needed another 15 minutes to get through all of the puzzles.
Mostly mechanical but with a good amount of tech thrown in.
We played with 3 (with the Game Master pushing us along). We needed more people to explore the vastness of the room. There were simple doors that needed opening that we just didn't have the time to get to while solving other puzzles. Six people would be able to work different puzzles at the same time without anyone getting bored.
There were a few simpler elements for younger kids but most of the problems took additional brainpower. The theme doesn't seem like kids would be into it too much (art museum?).
Everything was well-designed and worked great.
Physically active
Somewhat
A little extra space to cover, but not bad.
Accessibility
Easy mobility, but the room is a little dark in places. A couple of the clues had fine details in pictures that were a little hard to read. Some clues were a little higher up.
In a large mall (with lots of good shopping and other fun activities). Come for The Escape Game...stay for the shopping and other activities.
The Escape Game Grapevine is located in a booming mall with lots of parking close to the nearest mall entrance.
