The Reel has the best movie theater popcorn that money can buy. Radically buttery, salty, and crunchy – no other concession stand can compete. Literally! You are the disgruntled owners of a rival theater in town, and the only hope of saving your business relies on a heist most triumphant! Luckily, The Reel’s bogus manager brags about his "secret recipe" to anyone who will listen. More than once, he has let slip that the key to ultimate popped perfection is locked up somewhere on the premises. You can only hope to have enough time to find and snag the secret recipe for your own devilish snack-selling plans!

This room was a fun experience that was close to being incredible. The single GM on staff was extremely kind and welcoming, and the theming of the room was unique as I’ve never seen a movie theater theme before. The set was well designed but many of the puzzles were very worn. The puzzles themselves had hints of being super special, but the wear and tear on them broke the immersion a bit. Some of the puzzles were a fun mixup on ways to input codes. Fun experience and great for newer players as it isn’t very difficult and extremely linear.

my family and i stopped in slo on our drive up to monterey, and decided to do an escape room while here. the reel is such a cute room, and has some unique and clever puzzles! our GM patrick was amazing and was super welcoming! we escaped with over 20 minutes remaining, and plan on coming back to do some of there other rooms. i would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Cute theme. I have played over 80 escape rooms and I don’t think I have ever played a movie theater theme. The game was fairly linear and mostly gen1 puzzles. Fairly lock/combo heavy, but a couple fun and unique ways of getting a code. I took a group of 5 teens and they did an amazing job. Perfect family theme and a great beginner level room. Overall, we enjoyed it.

This one was my favorite at this puzzle effect location. I love the movies so the atmosphere was awesome! Not a fan of how many lock puzzles there were. But overall it was great!

I rate this room a 3/5 (ck out my bio for rating system). All categories (theme/set, puzzles, and my experience) garnered 1 pt each. So, pretty average but enjoyable nonetheless. It was a linear-type room with relatively easy puzzles for two people with escape room experience.

There was a puzzle in the room that was no longer part of the experience so a little confusing as to why that would still be there.

It was a fun, well-done room but pretty easy. We completed it in only 35 minutes with just my son and I. It's a good room for beginners. Pretty linear.

This was a good room. It’s the one I’d most recommend here but all of them are good. There were some puzzles that were challenging to the point where I was getting frustrated. But once I knew the solution, I’d realize that the puzzle was just smarter than me. Other parts of The Reel were really fun to solve without being too easy. I remember one element involving math that was tough once our brains were fried.

Gameplay

I really enjoyed the progression of this one. Just the right level of challenge.

Atmosphere

It was well made but I wouldn’t call it immersive. However this is the best set design at Puzzle Effect SLO. Really good stuff.

Customer service

Everyone at puzzle effect has always been great.

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

There were a lot of puzzles that I’ve seen elsewhere, but there were a couple things unique to The Reel.

This is a SLO issue. There’s metered parking right out front, but to park for free you have to walk a few blocks.

It was an okay room. It was weird they marketed it as an '80s room online but it was really just a movie theater room. Maybe bc they were trying to compete with the other '80s room in the area? If it wasn't that it was marketed as one thing to me and I got there and it was completely different I probably would have given it a thumbs up. It was fun enough but I think I like their Harry Potter room better. Mostly they're just kind of the corporate escape rooms you get with a chain but they were still entertaining.
