Permanently Closed - You and your friends enter the dark tomb, with only a torch and a flickering flashlight to guide you. You have one hour to retrieve the time medallion and use it to return home before all is lost. Ancient hieroglyphics cover the walls; could they be a clue? Your team finds a strange box, but it does not easily open. Who knows what other secrets Pharaoh Khaba’s tomb holds for those brave enough to enter…

Watch out for the sand! It’s pretty slippery in there so be careful. But it was a pretty good pharaoh escape room over all. I’ve done better, I’ve done worse. Only problems are definitely a lack of light for one puzzle and the slippery sand.

The sand was a bit slippery and I think one of the puzzles needs a refresh due to faded lines, but the puzzles were very fun regardless.

Game play was fun, note do not wear Sandals unless you want sand in between the toes. The only problem we had was that the room was fairly dim and there was nothing to carry to light up certain puzzles. We also weren’t informed that there was a pencil and paper and we try to not write on anything unless told prior - we just used our brains to keep track of things which was fine. It’s always awesome when a room can incorporate puzzles without locks and combos. Great job on the room. Fun story line.

Gameplay

Good flow but hard in dim lighting.

The room was ok. The set design was good, and having no locks was nice. However, most puzzles consisted of deciphering hieroglyphics around the room. I wish a company would do an Egyptian theme without doing mostly hieroglyphic puzzles.

An enjoyable room that could have been amazing if not for an asterisk next to every element. The set is properly immersive! The sandy floor and dimly-flickering torches add to the authenticity without being an impediment (though there were a couple times a little more light would have been nice). This room contained no physical locks, which was a nice touch. However, so much of the tech was fiddly; we solved one puzzle by accident, solved two puzzles but had to move our answer by half an inch, and input the wrong answer once but still solved the puzzle. Clues are delivered by pre-recorded audio, moderator instruction over a speaker, and text via a screen. This mishmash of delivery methods wasn’t immersive, and the in-world clues were too quiet for us to properly hear. Many puzzles are very satisfying to solve, especially with the tactile set. That said, there’s a logic puzzle that really interrupts the flow of the game, and the lighting makes others a little challenging to solve, as previously mentioned. Overall, it’s a fun experience, and I’d definitely recommend it. Just don’t expect to be completed wowed or enamored if you’re more of an escape room connoisseur.

Gameplay

This was a fairly linear room, though many times we had at least two puzzles to work on. That said, some props and puzzle components are delivered far before you need them, so don’t spend too long trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Customer service

Our GM was very friendly, though a little out of practice (by her own admission).

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

No physical locks is a plus. Also, one centerpiece of every Egyptian room is interacted with in a different way than usual for the theme.

Story

Any story elements within the game were nearly inaudible. The intro story delivered some motivation, but none of it really mattered in the room. I can’t say it was bad, but it wasn’t clear or was completely superfluous.

Accessibility

The low lighting is the major issue. Also, the sand on the floor could cause issues for those who struggle with mobility.

Love love LOVE this room! This is my fav at Alcatraz- very immersive, the puzzle difficulty level increases through the room which I thought was cool. No physical locks in the room which again just adds to that level of immersion that I love. This room is definitely in my top 5 rooms I’ve played!
