Escape Hour really sets the bar in the Seattle/Tacoma area IMO. This was our 16th room (2 players) and unfortunately the first one we’ve been unable to finish. The gameplay is great, there’s just SO much to do that you really need to keep a fairly snappy pace, and we simply ran out of time. Despite our disappointment in not finishing, this was a fantastic room, easily one of the best we’ve done. Great atmosphere (but no jump scares), a variety of clever puzzles (in addition to traditional locks), some higher-tech stuff, and some really creative elements. A+. If the owners are reading this review, feel free to reach out with a second-chance discount! 😂 FYI, there is some crawling, climbing, and back-and-forth between the two, as well as some dim lighting. EDIT: We went back about a month later and did this room again and WE ESCAPED - but guys, we really thought we were crushing it (how could we not, on a second attempt?) and it STILL took us almost the whole 70 minutes! 😂 It was still so much fun, and even though it was a do-over, we still found stuff we’d missed on our first attempt through. There were lots of opportunities to switch roles on the tasks we remembered (so even those felt like a new experience), but I had forgotten so many of the clever little details (lights! sounds! smoke?!) that experiencing them again was just as fun as the first time. I think this is where EH really excels - every square inch of the space is on-theme, immersive, and just so well-done and clever. Truly top-notch.

This was our first experience with this chain - we did this room and “Cosmic Crisis”. The sets are amazing, and that’s a big part of what this company is known for - they’ve got dozens and dozens of locations and a large central facility for designing and building props/sets, so they really are next-level. Very immersive, very high-quality, and some very unique/higher-tech props. So that’s cool to see on its own. But we really struggled with the back half of this room - not only did we have to ask for a ton of hints, but I’m pretty sure the GM gave us extra time and probably triggered a few puzzles that we hadn’t really solved just so we could finish. We’ve only had one or two other rooms (out of the 25+ that we’ve done) that we found this frustrating, so we’re not sure if it was us or the room. Some of the puzzles just didn’t feel intuitive or logical. We enjoyed “Cosmic Crisis” a lot more, even though it was rated as the more difficult room. Maybe this room is better suited for a larger group vs just two? The front desk staff and GM were very friendly, but there’s definitely a corporate feel and an in-person push to re-book for a discount or purchase a discounted gift card (although they are good deals). Also REALLY not a fan of public bookings - we intentionally went at an off time to reduce the chance of having to share the experience with strangers, but it was awkward to stand at their counter in the mall waiting for our game time while hoping nobody else walked up wanting to join 😂You can obviously buy out the other spots for your time slot, but that’s just too expensive for two people IMO. I can understand the profit motive behind it, it’ll just make me a lot more selective about when I go. We *really* wanted to like this room - it looks fantastic, and it had a lot of neat props and effects, but the puzzles themselves just didn’t do it for us. Maybe a case of style over substance. We enjoyed “Cosmic Crisis”, though, and plan to go back for the other rooms.

This was our first experience with this chain - we did this room and “Ruins: Forbidden Treasure”. The sets are amazing, and that’s a big part of what this company is known for - they’ve got dozens and dozens of locations and a large central facility for designing and building props/sets, so they really are next-level. Very immersive, very high-quality, and some very unique/higher-tech props. Of the two rooms we did, we enjoyed this one much more. The puzzles felt logical, the room had a good progression/flow, and it had a good mix of mental and physical puzzle-solving. The puzzles are mostly prop/mechanical manipulation instead of locks or ciphers, and there were some really clever things we hadn’t seen before. I’m not a huge fan of space-themed games, but I enjoyed this room a lot more than I thought I would because of the gameplay itself. Also had a cleverly-integrated hint system. Definitely planning to do the rest of their rooms.
