The StorykeeperLocurioEscape roomIRLPossibly the best room I’ve ever done. If you don’t like this, then you don’t like escape rooms. I got the vibe from the other reviews that I would regret not doing this room, so I’m glad we make it work during our short amount of time in the city. We were able to escape with two experienced puzzlers with a number of hints along the way
The Cursed Carnival [Abandoned Carnival]Lock and Key EscapeEscape roomIRLTwo adults. We had fun in this room. Host was friendly. Puzzles were fun
The ExperimentCognition EscapesEscape roomIRLPuzzles were unique. Overall, the room lacked flow and cohesion and was needlessly complicated to the point of making it more frustrating than enjoyable. The hint system was incredibly slow and as a result we ran out of time before we could finish
EnchantmentRed Door Escape Room - EncinitasEscape roomIRLTwo adults plus a three year old for an extra challenge. Finished with time to spare. The three year old thought the room was amazing. My wife and I enjoyed the room as well
The AnomalyPuzzleWorksEscape roomIRLAll of the rooms at Puzzleworks are well done, but I recommend saving this one for last and a group of 3-4 highly skilled puzzlers Most rooms you’re just working towards escaping in the allotted time. But with this room you’re basically doing three disjoint 20 minute rooms. Regardless of your performance in each room, you still “escape”. This room is different in that you’re just working towards a score which gets put on a leaderboard against other arbitrary scores My wife and I are avid, casual puzzlers. We aren’t interested in the competitive side of escape rooms. We just want to complete all of the puzzles in a room and escape before time runs out. There were several puzzles we did not solve in this room because we ran out of time in the various segments and were forced to move on to the next part. If at any point you get stuck on any of the puzzles I highly recommend asking for a clue immediately or else your experience might be similar to ours where you “won” but didn’t get to solve all of the puzzles and don’t even get to know what you did wrong Also, we thought we had solved a couple of the puzzles in the first segment correctly but based on our final result we messed them up. Not having immediate feedback on whether or not your solution is correct with the opportunity to try it again if you’re wrong is very frustrating Anyhow, do this room with a group of either three or four puzzlers who know what they’re doing and are up for a competitive room and ask for hints the moment you get stuck on anything and you’ll have a nice time. Enjoy your arbitrary point total at the end To be clear: don’t send more than four people into this room. There wasn’t enough parallelizable work to keep that many people busy One other thing to note: there’s no common ground / plot between the three disjoint rooms which seems like a miss
Company Like... FishTactical Escape 101 - MaplewoodMN: Maplewood MallEscape roomIRLThis was one of the easier rooms we have done. Our group of two finished in under 30 minutes. The game was well designed; we only needed to ask for a clue once. It was a fun outing!
Cell Block EBooby Trap Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLWe did this room with 10 people. It was chaotic. I wouldn’t recommend going in with more than four people. There were times we solved puzzles and it activated something else in the room but it wasn’t obvious if we had successfully solved a puzzle or what effect it had on the room. This was largely due to the large number of people crammed into a small space and the variety of noises and audio clips playing from the TV in the room, but partly due to design as well. There was one puzzle in particular which was mechanically very difficult to perform. Even after thorough clues which told us exactly what we needed to do, we still struggled to complete the game mechanic However the staff was friendly and we will likely return with a smaller group in the future
The ApartmentEscape the Room - MinneapolisEscape roomIRLThis was a fun room. Our group of two experienced players escaped with 15 minutes remaining. For inexperienced groups, you’ll definitely want at least four players. There’s a lot of very simplistic / classic get a code and put it into the corresponding lock device. But none of the puzzles were frustrating. The room is well designed and satisfying to finish. No part of it feels like it’s designed to confuse or frustrate players which is only too of mind because of recent experiences I’ve had at other venues
