Tomb
Amaze
Escape room
IRL
The light is completely turned off in the reception, and you are equipped with an old-fashioned lantern and an "ancient iPad," which is actually a tablet with hieroglyphs and their translation into our script. In a chain, you enter a dark room where you can only make out symbols on the walls and feel the rough surfaces on all the walls. The door closes, and the sound of an avalanche is heard. A gloomy voice welcomes you to the pharaoh's burial site where you are now trapped until his soul is freed. From here, you have only 60 minutes to escape before the oxygen in the burial chamber runs out. The light turns on, and the clock starts ticking. You had slowly begun to discern more and more details as you got used to the darkness, but the room is so well-crafted that it can easily withstand full illumination. It truly feels like a burial chamber. There is nothing superfluous, and no objects seem out of place. The floors, walls, and ceiling have rough surfaces, and every detail is in place. For us, it's always exciting when classic padlocks are spared and more creative solutions are used to build puzzles. This room is completely without both keys and padlocks, and instead, large props are used that require teamwork, logical thinking, and a keen eye for detail. We were like an Indiana Jones team, and with such a fine setting and atmospheric sound effects, it was a very cohesive experience. This room is among our favorites and comes highly recommended. Chapter 2: Redemption Robbery
Anigma Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
The rooms at Anigma are recommended to be played in sequence. To read the first part, see: The second part of the vengeful story at Anigma revolves around the Maxim family's crown jewel, namely the Maxim ring. It is being exhibited at the local museum, heavily guarded. The guard has been incapacitated for about an hour, presenting the opportunity to steal back the valuable ring. When you enter the door to the museum, Anigma Museum of Fine Art, effort has been put into making it resemble a museum. Only when you start to examine things closely can you see the puzzles hidden in the exquisite setting. The puzzles are well-crafted and integrated into the room in an exciting way. They are built around the room's storyline and fit seamlessly. Several puzzles have multiple layers, which we love when it's not just about finding a code and opening a lock. It requires a good overview and communication to keep track of the many puzzles and possibilities in the room since it is designed nonlinearly. Despite some guidance to help keep track of what needs to be used where, this is still a relatively challenging room for newcomers to the escape room genre. The quest for the Maxim ring is an exciting experience that provided us with several fun and engaging puzzles along the way, keeping us thoroughly entertained. Even though it's not a classic room to break out of, it's a refreshing change to have to steal something, especially something that leads further into the story of the Maxim family. Chapter 1: Finders Keepers
Anigma Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
At Anigma, all rooms are played in a sequence as one long story. This is the first room in the tale of the Maxim family, who lost everything when they fled a rebellion in their home country. Ewa Ivanovna, the heir to the Maxim family, has set out to gather the family heirlooms and needs help. Through your efforts to assist Ewa, you witness her tragic story and take part in avenging her family. Ewa's mother was institutionalized in a mental hospital, and when she passed away, the staff stole her jewels and kept them. But tonight, they are at the opera, providing the perfect opportunity to reclaim them. Unfortunately, they have locked the door to their apartment, so while most rooms are about getting out, here you need to break in. After a lengthy introduction video with fine animations and mood-setting background music, we are ready to take on the first task. We are led to the apartment door, and then the clock starts ticking. Once we have broken in, the room gives a convincing illusion of being in the apartment of an older couple, complete with a kitchen, piano, and puzzles etc.. The room is well-designed with a focus on believable props and decorations. The mother's jewels are cleverly hidden behind a system of puzzles. There is good variation in the puzzles, and the room is nonlinear, providing plenty to engage with. It's especially enjoyable when different senses and logic come into play to solve the puzzles. We rated it a 3 for difficulty, which may not be reflected in the fact that we escaped in less than half the time. However, we found a good level of challenge in the puzzles, and fortunately for us, it was a successful day. Some of the puzzles might be time-consuming if you can't grasp the approach and remember that the room is nonlinear. Pirate Island
Amaze
Escape room
IRL
The pirate ship has been sunk by Blackbeard and his crew. As one of the few survivors, you've been captured and are now imprisoned in Blackbeard’s dungeon. Fortunately, the ghost of your own captain is determined to help you, and he won’t stop until you’ve stolen Blackbeard’s treasure. Amaze really knows how to create an impressive set design and support it with an immersive soundscape. You completely buy into the illusion of being transported back in time, fully immersed in the pirate theme. There aren’t a huge number of props in the room, but what’s there works really well. There are also some new elements we haven’t encountered with other escape room providers. There are several classic puzzles in the room, which means we progressed through it fairly easily. So, it’s not a particularly difficult room, but it’s a very beautiful and entertaining experience—definitely something you shouldn’t miss if you’re in Odense. In terms of size, four people can easily fit in the room, and everyone stays engaged the whole time. However, the beginning of the room disrupted our flow a bit, as it doesn’t require everyone’s involvement right away. A couple of crew members were left staring into the horizon while the rest fought to break out of the prison. Mafia
Amaze
Escape room
IRL
To prove your worth to the mafia family, you must break into the boss's office and remove incriminating evidence before the police raid the office. But the office is secured with a security system that requires cunning and cleverness to disarm. There is nothing groundbreaking about the background story of the mafia family, but the construction of the room to bring the story to life is very well executed. After an atmospheric intro through the speakers, the time begins. Unlike most other rooms, there is no clock in the room to keep track of time. We were also told that time could be extended if we were close to solving everything but were missing a few puzzles, so the classic 60-minute time pressure is not as dominant at AMaze. There are plenty of puzzles to tackle right from the start, and the room is not built in a linear way. This also means that you can easily have a group of four without anyone feeling redundant. We were challenged on how thoroughly we needed to search the room to find all the hints, and it was surprising how much could be hidden right in front of our eyes. This is only possible because the finishing touches were exquisite, and the designers were extremely detail-oriented. There was good variation in the puzzles, so different types of intelligence, dexterity, and memory were tested. It is always a pleasure to have a game master who is engaged and understands when you need a hint or just a sign that you are on the right track. We were entertained from start to finish. The Murder Mystery At The Office
ClockedIn
Escape room
IRL
A private detective is suddenly found dead in his office – murdered. This case is quite mysterious and your team is the only one that can solved this murder mystery. But do hurry, you have only 60 minutes before the police will come and clear the office. We received a kind and good introduction in the lobby. However, in our opinion, it is a shame to then start the room off with a video going through the practical stuff which could very well have been given by the real person in the lobby. The room was without a doubt an office and as real detectives we were challenged on our ability to ransack and make detailed observations in this room. This office sure can hold a lot of evidence despite its quite small size and our team of 4 people always had something to do. The puzzles here are not revolutionary or exceptionally difficult, but there were quite many and there were many creative ways to present hide the evidence which was pretty amusing. This room is a classic escape room with many traditional codes and locks. Overall, it is a bit worn, but I believe a real English private detective’s office would have a similar feel to it… it a bit of shame for the design, that many red crosses had been placed on stuff we were not supposed to fiddle with, as oppose to hiding these things, because without these the illusion of a true detective’s office holds Number of nuts (max 5) Difficulty level 🌰🌰🌰 Design 🌰🌰🌰 Scare factor 0 Entertainment vs price 🌰🌰🌰
The Kiosk
Ballerup Event Center
Escape room
IRL
You and your team will be taken to an upstairs room where there is a whiteboard with pictures, a bench to sit on for the briefing, and lockers with jumpsuits, tactical vests, guns, and helmets - full SWAT gear. You sit on the bench, and folders with more pictures and profiles of the suspects are handed out, and the briefing begins. It involves Kasper and Ali, owners of a local kiosk, who are suspected of various wrongdoings, and their criminal records certainly support the suspicion. The mission is clear: while the two suspects are detained, your team has 75 minutes to search their kiosk and find incriminating evidence. A team leader is appointed to wear the earpiece so that the command center can communicate with the team during the operation. Then the key to the kiosk is handed over, and you are ready to lock yourself into the dark kiosk downstairs. The power is cut off to ensure that you can enter without triggering alarms, and video surveillance won't expose you. In the light from the flashlight on one gun and the red light from the board showing the number of likes the kiosk has received, you grope your way forward, and the mission is in full swing. Despite having played in many rooms before, we have never been in a kiosk. This doesn't feel like an escape room; it IS a kiosk. There are soft drinks, alcohol, chocolates in their original packaging, a cash register, and the necessary household items. All shelves are packed full. The first thing that strikes us is "wow," and then confusion sets in because we can't use our usual strategy of thoroughly searching everything and collecting all loose items in the middle. We are also briefed not to leave any traces. Slowly, we find signs of something resembling classic escape room tasks, but they are really well hidden. The room is almost linear, but with all the things in the room, you are unlikely to get stuck searching for clues. Instead of a screen, hints are given through the earpiece to the team leader, who is responsible for relaying the information. This creates a different dynamic, in addition to being realistic for the setting you are in. It also places demands on the team leader to effectively communicate all the information because if they don't get it all, the team may not be working in the right direction. As an escape room enthusiast, you feel like a kid in a candy store, quite literally. But it also makes it challenging for newer players to navigate a room like this. The room requires a minimum of 3 players, and we recommend sticking to a maximum of 4 players, preferably a team that has tried a few escape rooms before this. We tried the room in its early phase, so there were a few beginner mistakes and it was extremely hot, but we were greeted by a dedicated team who were eager to hear constructive feedback to make the room even better, which includes ventilation so that you don't melt while wearing tactical gear. One of the suspects looked incredibly similar! Number of nuts (max 5) Difficulty level 🌰🌰🌰🌰 Design 🌰🌰🌰🌰 Scare factor 🌰 Entertainment vs. price 🌰🌰🌰🌰
Williams' Dilemma
Ballerup Event Center
Escape room
IRL
William von Oxenskjold's inheritance was on the verge of falling into the hands of his cousin, Anders from Ostengården, when William's father, Baron von Oxenskjold, mysteriously disappeared in 1949. As a detective, your task is to find out what happened in 1949 by uncovering clues in the Baron's office, which has been locked since his disappearance. Unfortunately, the Baron's sister, Edda, who has been managing the estate, has passed away, and while her funeral takes place, there is an opportunity to sneak into the Baron's office and solve the mystery. Ballerup Event Center has created a beautiful and well-executed illusion of a 1949 office in their first escape room. We encountered several impressive details that we hadn't seen before, which is always exciting. There was a good variety of puzzles, requiring different skills to solve the room. The room is not linear, making it easier for multiple people to participate. We tried the room with 4 people, which we found to be very suitable. The website states that it's possible to have up to 8 people, but in our opinion, it would be a bit crowded. However, since it's an event center, the focus is on competition, so they naturally have 2 identical rooms. If you have a group of 8, we recommend splitting into 4 people per room. The cafe and arrival area don't contribute to the atmosphere of the escape room, as the focus is on it being an event center. We thought it was a bit disappointing that the introduction to the room takes place completely outside the setting, with a piece of paper to read. Our game master was friendly and accommodating once we entered the room, but we missed a bit more immersion/atmosphere during the actual introduction.
