Nevermore
Nocturne Adventures
Escape room
IRL
We had an absolute blast playing Nevermore—hands down, my favorite room to date! Every single detail is meticulously crafted, making for an incredibly immersive experience. The set design, featuring refurbished pieces from an old Victorian house, is stunning—from the floors to the walls to the ceiling, every inch is thoughtfully designed. The storyline flows seamlessly, the puzzles are both engaging and satisfying to solve, and the room is filled with clever Poe-inspired details that enhance the atmosphere. The ambiance is nothing short of incredible. It’s clear that Nicole and Tom have poured their passion and hard work into creating something truly special and it comes across while you are playing. This is one of those rare experiences where, the moment you step out, you’ll wish you could go back and play it again for the first time.
Man's Best Friend
Great Escapes Inman
Escape room
IRL
This room is top-tier! Man’s Best Friend is amazing and features unique puzzles you won’t find anywhere else. It’s easily the best escape room in Spartanburg. The owners are wonderful people to talk to, and you can tell they truly care about their work. Once you leave, it’s one of those rooms you think to yourself you wish you could do over again for the first time.

Vanishing Act
Black Mountain Escape
Escape room
IRL
This was one of the most immersive and exciting escape rooms I’ve done! From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into a thrilling experience that keeps you engaged until the very end. The puzzles are not only fun and creative, but the live actor adds an extra layer of excitement with some unexpected tricks they have up their sleeve.
Vanished: The Cold Case of Stephanie Baker
Trapped In The Upstate - Spartanburg
Escape room
IRL
From the moment you walk in, you will be transported back to the 90s—complete with 90s music playing in the background and a nostalgic bedroom scene with iconic movie posters. The attention to detail in the environment was incredible, setting the perfect vibe for the room. The gameplay was equally great, with clever puzzles that were both challenging and fun. It truly felt like we were part of a 90s time capsule. The GM was fantastic and helpful. I would recommend this room to anyone.
Saving Santa
Trapped In The Upstate - Spartanburg
Escape room
IRL
The atmosphere was fantastic, and the puzzles had a great flow, making for a smooth and immersive experience. We completed the room with 22 minutes to spare as a team of two, so the difficulty level leaned towards the easier side. However, it’s clearly designed with families in mind, making it a great choice for groups of all ages. The puzzles were creative and fun, and the engaging atmosphere alone makes it well worth a visit!
Mountain Top Murders
The Great Escape Room - Asheville
Escape room
IRL
Mountain Top Murders left a little to be desired. It had a promising start, with a well-paced first half and some fun puzzles. However, the second half felt a bit drawn out, with puzzles that didn’t always contribute to the flow of the story. One puzzle seemed unclear, making it more frustrating than fun. That said, the set design was great and was the strongest feature.
Video Valhalla
Exit 4
Escape room
IRL
I really wanted to love this room — the 90s video store theme had so much promise and felt like a perfect setup for a fun, nostalgic experience. Unfortunately, the execution just wasn’t there. The puzzles didn’t flow well, and there was little to no direction on what to do next, making the puzzles not as fun to complete. As experienced escape room players, we were disappointed by the lack of cohesion in the story and puzzle design. Though the room felt like a video store, the space itself felt cramped, especially in the first part of the game. I wouldn’t recommend doing this with more than three people, four at most. The one bright spot was the staff — they were friendly and helpful, so no complaints there. This experience just reinforced what I’ve noticed before: chain escape rooms do not compare to locally owned ones. They often feel uninspired and lack the creativity and attention to detail that make escape rooms memorable. That is the case with this one.
