Storyteller's SecretBoxarooEscape roomIRL8.7/10 After traveling several miles to get to Boxaroo in Boston and try Storyteller’s Secret, we can definitely assure you it was worth it. The set itself was extraordinary and really immersed you into the author’s world. This had to be one of the best “non-escape” rooms we have been a part of, with puzzles galore and a plot that lasted over an hour without becoming boring. We personally thought the intro video and hint system really stood out (even though we didn’t need to use many hints). Our only hiccup with the room was the repetition of using and doing the same puzzles (and some technical difficulties with a specific puzzle). We wish they could have added a new layer of something, instead of having to go back to repeat what we just did. Otherwise, between the storyline, design, and gameplay, this room rightfully earned itself a rating of 8.7 on our scale.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz13th Hour Escape Room - WhartonEscape roomIRL9.3/10 Wow! This was an absolute adventure from beginning to end. The room was one of, if not, the most well designed rooms that I have ever played in. You are fully immersed in the story the moment you step into the room. All I can say is wow and that this is a must do room!
Crane ManorClue IQEscape roomIRLWOW!! This was the first room we’ve done that was over 60 minutes and we were not disappointed at all. ClueIQ were able to fit so many different and unique puzzles in the room, that worked well with the theme. I feel that the atmosphere of the “manor” really drove this room forward and kept us on our toes the whole time. Really fun room and would highly recommend! (We can’t wait to do their other rooms) 8.9/10
The Campground13th Hour Escape Room - WhartonEscape roomIRL9.3/10 The big 100 and we couldn’t have been happier with choosing The Campground as our 100th room done together. Let’s make this nice and clear, this is a room made for enthusiasts. The amount of puzzles and immersive elements in here make it something enthusiasts will truly enjoy and respect. This is a 90-minute experience and has every right to be this length because of how much there is to unfold. We did escape with a little over 15 minutes to spare, but after speaking with Brandon and Gabe, who helped create the room, it’s very rare for a duo to finish with that much time left. I know a lot of the reviews say come with a larger group, but if you and your partner have done a bunch of escape rooms you guys definitely got this! All the puzzles made sense and flowed super well. There were no leaps in logic and the room was not very search heavy at all which is always a plus for us. We enjoyed the story of the room very much! The moment you meet your game master is the moment the room starts and it definitely took us by surprise (in a good way). The puzzles, environment, and music all made sense and connected with the overall story. And to top it all off there was a satisfying and unique end to the room! A minor spoiler if you have not played the room….. Yes, there is fake snow that does fall as you progress into the room, and as other reviews have mentioned it did cause us to cough and burn our breathing even after the game finished. Thankfully, as soon as we did begin to cough a bit, they did immediately stop the snow fall. I do wish that this can be solved because the snow does add a very immersive and unique element to the game. Overall, if you are an enthusiast, do yourself a favor and get out to play the Campground. 13th Hour once again hits it out of the park here and solidifies why they are the best company in the area. This is a MUST DO room!!!
Train RobberyCyber Raccoon Escape RoomEscape roomIRL7.9/10 Train Robbery has been on our wishlist for quite a while, so we were happy to finally be able to play it. This room definitely did not disappoint with a great story and fun atmosphere making it one of the better rooms in the DC/Northern VA area. There is an aspect of a “whodunit,” which isn’t usually our cup of tea but it was still super enjoyable with a lot to do! It was on the more difficult side, especially with only 2 people, but we were able to beat it with a minute to spare 😬 (You can check out our full review on our blog. Link in our profile. SOSEscape Boats - DublinEscape roomIRL9/10 After 65 rooms, this might be the most immersive game we have done so far. Completely submerging ourselves in a boat really enhances the experience. Being agile is very important as the boat is on the smaller side. The puzzles in the room were fairly linear but all went well with the story and nothing seemed out of place. The ending and final room is something we will probably never forget! We were treated great by our GM and are hoping to come back soon to try their other room with friends. If you are in Dublin, make Escape Boats your number 1 escape room destination! (You can check out our full review in our blog. Link in my profile. 8-Bit EscapeEscape Room HerndonEscape roomIRLThis was the final room that we needed to complete at ERH, and they just do not miss with any of their rooms. Right as the game master opens the door for you to enter this room, you are going to be fully immersed in a living room based in the 80s. Everything about this room, from the props to the puzzles themselves make this one of, if not the most perfect 80s themed rooms out there. This room was nonstop fun (even with us being born in the late 90s) and had some very unique puzzles that went with the theme as well. The final part of the room was so much fun and really ended the room with a bang! There is a bonus puzzle after completing the room if you finished in a certain amount of time, which isn’t too difficult. Overall, this was a great room and if you are in the area, it is a must do. 8.5/10
Magician's WorkshopEscape Room HerndonEscape roomIRLBy far, one of the best experiences we’ve had in any escape room. After completing 60 rooms, this is definitely in our top 3 favorite rooms so far. There are so many different unique elements to this room that you just have to do to experience yourselves. Can’t say much more without spoiling the room, so do yourselves a favor and come out and do this room! 9.2/10
The Grand Parlor13th Hour Escape Room - WhartonEscape roomIRLYou know a room is above and beyond when you want to go back and play it again. 13th Hour and The Grand Parlor live up to the hype!!! We completed this as a group of 2, but instantly wished we had AT LEAST a group of 4. There is so much to see and do that we did miss some pieces to certain puzzles and could’ve used more eyes to pick up on them. The only negative was that we felt rushed from the time we stepped through the door to the time we left. We never got a second to really appreciate the experience. This may be due to the fact that they are always completely booked especially on weekends (maybe try going during the week). THIS IS A MUST DO ROOM! 9.4/10
The BirdMyssTic RoomsEscape roomIRL8.7/10 The Bird by MyssTic Rooms proves that an escape room doesn't need sprawling square footage to deliver an unforgettable experience. What this room lacks in size, it more than makes up for in immersive design, clever puzzle construction, and exceptional attention to detail. From the moment we entered the de Lille apothecary, we were drawn into a richly themed world that felt both mystical and intimate. The set design is stunning, and every element and detail felt intentional, down to the smallest decorative touch. Where The Bird really shines is in its puzzle flow. Each challenge transitions seamlessly into the next, offering a variety of different kinds of puzzles that just work with the ambiance of the room. At no point did we feel stuck in a frustrating loop or unsure of what to do next. The room does an impressive job of guiding players naturally through its narrative while still leaving enough room for satisfying “aha” moments. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or just looking for an imaginative escape, this room is absolutely worth your time.
