Soup Du Jour
Rock City Escape
Escape room
IRL
This escape room provided a solid and engaging experience with a clear narrative thread that guided players through a variety of well-integrated puzzles. Set within the atmospheric backdrop of a monastery, the room's décor and ambiance were fittingly detailed, contributing to an immersive environment. While not groundbreaking, the puzzles were generally well-crafted and stayed true to the room's theme, offering a mix of medium to challenging difficulty levels. One notable aspect was the interactivity throughout the space, where many puzzles were cleverly embedded into the room's layout, allowing for simultaneous exploration and puzzle-solving in the central chamber. The game's structure effectively utilized lighting cues to signify progress, aiding in maintaining momentum and clarity on which puzzles remained to be solved. The presence of a responsive game master, initially guiding the experience and later providing hints via speakers, ensured a smooth gameplay flow. Despite some areas where room elements could have been slightly enhanced for a more polished experience, the overall design and execution were commendable. With adequate clues and a 75-minute time frame, the room offered a satisfying challenge without feeling rushed. It stands as a well-rounded choice for escape room enthusiasts looking for an enjoyable blend of thematic immersion and interactive puzzle-solving.
Dunkle Machenschaften In Zaginis Zauberladen
TIMEBREAK Mönchengladbach
Escape room
IRL
This escape room, offers a good executed enchanting experience for fans of the magical world. The room is well-constructed with realistic props that contribute to a decent atmosphere, enhanced by details like a creaking floor. However, the overall ambiance, while good, wasn't really immersive in my opinion and could use some refinement. The puzzles are generally linear and clear, particularly for those with some escape room experience. Although the room didn't introduce many new elements, it still provided an entertaining experience with a few pleasant surprises. There were some notable drawbacks tho. The game master's voice was too quiet when providing hints, making it hard to hear the guidance. More significantly, the air conditioning was not working during our session. Despite repeated requests to the game master, the temperature remained unbearably high, which detracted from the overall enjoyment. Additionally, the abrupt ending of the game felt unsatisfactory and could be improved for a more fulfilling conclusion. Despite these issues, the room was well-designed and fun to play. Future players should ensure the air conditioning is functioning to fully enjoy the experience.
Die Flucht Aus Alcatraz 1 & 2 [Escape From Alcatraz 1 & 2]
Escape Stories - Elberfeld
Escape room
IRL
Escape from Alcatraz offers an intriguing premise with its well-executed theme and initial strong impression. The Game Master provided a warm welcome and a clear introduction, setting the stage for what could have been an engaging escape room experience. The room's ambiance, while visually fitting the Alcatraz theme, was somewhat undermined by overly loud noises and music, making communication between team members challenging. Although this added a layer of difficulty, it often felt more frustrating than fun. The puzzles, particularly in the early stages, were well-aligned with the escape theme and offered a good challenge. However, as the game progressed, the experience started to unravel. A critical room element malfunctioned, leading to unnecessary time loss and frustration. Moreover, the red thread—the cohesive storyline—became increasingly unclear, making it difficult to maintain immersion. Despite being well-themed in the beginning, the puzzles themselves lacked uniqueness, with most feeling like variations of challenges seen elsewhere. This, combined with the lack of a clear narrative, made the game harder to complete, even for a team with considerable escape room experience. One of the most significant drawbacks was the lack of proper ventilation. Despite multiple requests, the air conditioning and fans were not turned on, resulting in an uncomfortable and overly warm environment that severely impacted our enjoyment. In the end, while Escape from Alcatraz has some positive aspects, the combination of technical issues, unclear storytelling, and poor room conditions left us feeling more disappointed than satisfied. Unfortunately und this conditions, it's not an experience we would readily recommend.
Der Fluch Des Neptun [Neptune's Curse]
Hidden in Hamburg - Rickmer Rickmers
Escape room
IRL
The escape room set on a real ship offered a very cool and relatively realistic experience. Designed in a Neptune-pirate ship style, the fact that it was on an actual metal ship greatly enhanced the ambiance. The logical design of the rooms, allowing players to delve deeper into the ship’s interior, added to the immersion. The puzzles were moderately difficult, enabling the entire team to work independently and remain actively engaged throughout. Many puzzles were intricately tied to the ship's design, fitting seamlessly into the game's narrative. This coherence contributed significantly to the overall atmosphere. The unique setting makes this escape room highly recommended for those seeking a distinctive and memorable adventure.
Obscurus – Die Rettung der Magischen Welt [ Obscurus – Saving the Magical World ]
The Code Agency - Düsseldorf
Escape room
IRL
The room itself was well-designed, with interesting visuals and a nice interaction through the wall with an actor, despite no direct contact. However, we were constantly guided by the Game Master, leaving not much opportunity to explore puzzles independently. This heavy guidance made it feel more like being led through a story rather than solving it ourselves. Additionally, the room was really uncomfortably warm despite cool outdoor temperatures, and we couldn't feel the supposed air conditioning. Some puzzles had a clear storyline, while others lacked coherence. Unfortunately, one key element malfunctioned at the start, causing the Game Master to enter and fix it, disrupting immersion and indicating poor room preparation. While the room had interesting aspects, the experience was less immersive due to these issues.
Titkos Metró [Secret Subway]
E-Exit Escape Room Budapest
Escape room
IRL
Secret Subway in Budapest is highly regarded, and it certainly lives up to its reputation, as well in Gamedesign, but also in difficulty. The experience was immersive, with multiple rooms and an impressive number of puzzles. Despite being exhausting when attempted by just two players, the story remained engaging. The room had a vibrant atmosphere and included a special game element that adds to the uniqueness, though it’s best left unspoiled. However, the initial room felt abit cramped, raising doubts about accommodating three to four players comfortably. The puzzles were very challenging, making it unsuitable for beginners. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and allowed for full immersion into the story. One puzzle was unclear in its execution and could have been better designed, but this was with the help of the gamemaster a minor issue. Despite the difficulty, the room provided a rewarding and fun challenge.
Azték Sírkamra [Aztec Catacomb]
Neverland
Escape room
IRL
The Aztec Catacombs room in Budapest is my personal favorite among the escape rooms I've experienced. Its design is excellent, perfectly capturing the Aztec theme with a strong Indiana Jones vibe. The room is highly immersive, making you feel like you're truly in an ancient catacomb filled with traps. A surprising and humorous element adds to the charm, and the music enhances the overall atmosphere, making the experience more realistic. The difficulty level is moderate, with puzzles that flow naturally and don't require much external help. The storyline is clear, reducing the need for assistance from the Game Master. The room is packed with unique game elements I've never seen before. Additionally, it's located under an escape room bar, where you can enjoy a themed cocktail after the game, adding a nice touch to the experience. The cocktail was reasonably priced by Budapest standards, making the whole experience enjoyable and memorable.
Deadland
AROOM Budapest
Escape room
IRL
The Deadland room in Budapest is beautifully designed and perfectly captures the post-apocalyptic zombie atmosphere. Located in a residential area, this room offers an immersive experience that makes you feel part of a zombie apocalypse. The ambiance is meticulously crafted, and the room is spacious, accommodating many players comfortably. The puzzles are moderately challenging, and although we needed some hints, the overall difficulty is balanced. The room provides a clear storyline, making it easy to follow and know what to do next. The climate control is excellent, adding to the comfort of the experience. The puzzles are well-integrated into the story, enhancing the overall fun. This room is ideal for groups and offers a fantastic, immersive adventure with a strong zombie vibe.
Demise of the Gricers
Entered
Escape room
IRL
This escape room experience stands out from traditional and other horror escape games, offering an intense, immersive horror scenario, which includes a unique element that can't be mentioned without spoilers. From the beginning, you dive into a well-thought-out game world with impressive atmosphere and attention to detail. The tutorial is beautifully designed and helps players understand the game mechanics. The team places great emphasis on safety due to the game's inherent risks, reinforced by helmets and knee pads. The game is very thrilling and horror-heavy, with outstanding acting performances. We played the short version, which was incredibly scary and entertaining at the same time. The extended version would have been even more interesting to continue the story. Overall, the difficulty level is high despite fewer puzzles due to more physical activity, and it is highly recommended for those who prefer a very unique horror escape adventure.
Sherlock Holmes
Enigmania Duisburg
Escape room
IRL
The Sherlock Holmes room offers an atmospheric concept inspired by the classic book, set in a London ambiance. It strongly adheres to the intellectual stories of Sherlock Holmes, providing a good experience. The puzzles were generally challenging, with a few being particularly difficult. One puzzle didn't make much sense to us, but with the help of the Game Master, we managed to solve it. Another puzzle was also notably hard to visually figure out. The atmosphere is ideal for those who enjoy the Sherlock Holmes vibe, though the room sticks closely to the Sherlock Holmes style and doesn’t venture much beyond it. The number of rooms was relatively limited, which might be a drawback for some. While it can be recommended for fans of the London style, it doesn't stand out particularly compared to other escape rooms.
