The StorykeeperLocurioEscape roomIRLThere are many many pros to this room. The hint system, the decor, and the staff were all standouts. I totally understand why this room is a multiple time award winner, and if you’re a dedicated escape room fan, this should definitely be on your list. However… This room is hard. When they say 2 people is not enough they mean it. We didn’t listen and we did struggle to get to the end. A lot of the puzzles are riddle-y. I would argue that there are some logic leaps— we had moments where we got a hint to do something and were like, how were we supposed to figure that out? You are definitely paying for the experience here. The immersion is their strongest factor so if that’s really important to you in an escape room you will LOVE this room. However if your priority is the puzzles you may not love this room as much as some others. While the quality of this room probably does make it the best room I’ve ever done, I would not say that this is the room I most enjoyed playing.
ZookeeperCityscape GamesEscape roomIRLI was a little apprehensive since this is a “kids” room, but even though we were 3 adults this room did not disappoint. Because everything was kept pretty simple, the puzzles had to speak for themselves— no frills or logic leaps to make things artificially difficult, just simple cleverness. I loved that the decor was bright and fun. A lot of rooms geared towards adults try to be fancy and complicated with it, so it was refreshing to see some cool animals and bright colors. The flow was excellent and it was a nice take on a non linear room. I do think it could have been slightly more immersive, but again since this was a kids room I adjust my normal expectations. If you’re an enthusiast, don’t expect this room to keep you for the full hour, but I still think it was totally worth the money.
Midnight ManorEscape Hour Gig HarborEscape roomIRLthings i liked about this room: our gamemaster was great. the decor was extravagant and immersive. there’s a wide range of types of puzzles—some physical, some brain based, with some easier and some harder. there’s always some surprises in an escape hour room and this room was no exception. to sum up, the vibes were immaculate. things that weren’t my favorite: they don’t show you your timer. like, why?! i need to know how much time i have left. this in my opinion makes it so hard to know when to ask for help. the clue giving system was cool but the immersive factor makes it hard to hear and understand what your gamemaster is saying. finally, the soundtrack was so repetitive that i was sick of hearing it by the end of our hour. a little more variety in the music would make a big difference. overall this was a great room and fun experience, but we had only 2 players and it was not enough. due to some non linear factors and the huge amount of puzzles, having a larger team would be very advantageous here.

Sorcerer's LairQuest Reality GamesEscape roomIRLThe one thing I really liked about this room was one unique prop with some cool tech. However there’s a fair list of things I didn’t enjoy. I hate it when escape rooms are pitch black with no flashlights. It often seems like a cheap trick to make the room harder and that was definitely the case here, but it wasn’t the only cheap trick. A lot of props in the room had unnecessary frills to make it hard to see or differentiate between things. None of the puzzles were actually very challenging but the execution was difficult because the locks are old, the puzzles broken down, and some of the items hard to maneuver. The ending was very anticlimactic (my group was like, wait that’s it?) Their leaderboard times are quite ridiculous; I can definitely see blasting through this room with ease IF you brought your night vision goggles (or are a vampire.) The immersion is lacking in various ways (what dungeon would be boiling hot?) Finally, the gamemastering was disappointing: when asking questions, we got a lot of “umm let me check” which is not helpful and did not help with the immersion factor. Overall this room was lackluster and I’d save your money to go somewhere else.
The Secrets of The MasterBrainy ActzEscape roomIRLthe immersion and decoration of this room were lacking. it was very empty and flat feeling. the flow of the puzzles was okay but nothing special. the staff were nice but i think one person was running multiple rooms at once which is not the coolest. the Worst thing about this experience was the clue giving system. they give you a tablet on which to text message them, and then they take several minutes to respond. this wouldn’t be a huge deal if they didn’t have a puzzle which requires you to verify your code with your host before entering it. you’re going to force me to message you and then i have to wait several minutes for you to answer while my time is ticking away? not cool. there are lots of better escape rooms in tacoma, i would recommend choosing another place.
