Wrongfully ConvictedThe Escape RevolutionEscape roomIRLThis is a quite well done prison break style escape room. I can't say that it's a "love" rating for me as the style of room is overdone for me. If you're quite new to escape rooms or haven't done many prison break style games, then I'd recommend this one thoroughly!
Escape from the Time Travel LabSCRAP Hall of HeroesEscape roomIRLThis game relies on a particular mechanic that is not well suited for shared games where communication between groups not familiar with each other really breaks down the ability to progress the game. Some puzzles were unintuitive, but we made our through most of them regardless. The final puzzle was very unsatisfying and we felt it was unfair. This was the first room I'd ever done and also the only one I haven't escaped from. I suppose my review could have changed if I had realized the solution to the final puzzle in time. I don't think my party would have enjoyed it though.
Pirate's RevengeWay of EscapeEscape roomIRLThis game was fun! Cool props and puzzles integrated with the theme nicely. Some puzzles were unintuitive or a bit hard to find the clues for. Game master was helpful and hinted us along when we did get stuck.
The Warrior's WayRed Door Escape Room - ConcordEscape roomIRLThere was a feature which we spent a good amount of time trying to make work. When we requested help from the GM repeatedly regarding this puzzle, they ignored us (or didn't hear us). After the game was over, they explained that that puzzle was broken. They then recommended that we play the room again some time to break the time record. Otherwise, the room was great and would have been my favorite experience at Red Door.
ConfinementRed Door Escape Room - SacramentoEscape roomIRLMy main reason for disliking this game is that there was at least one jump scare in a room not really tagged as having jump scares. The game master thought it was funny when my whole team was spooked by the first one. I'm not sure how they didn't notice that I had a broken finger going into the room and that the first jump scare caused me to smack a wall and cause me more pain. The fact that happened and then we asked if there were more jump scares and the GM said no, then proceeded to laugh at our reaction to another jump scare later is not acceptable.
Escape From AlcatrazEscapeSFEscape roomIRLThis game really shows its age. The set is thematic, but the ceiling was leaking. The puzzles were fair but relied on certain dexterity skill which feels unfair. It's unclear sometimes what is part of the game and what isn't. Still good for me overall.
King Arthur’s LegacyEscapeSFEscape roomIRLI found that I really enjoyed the flow of this room. I found it really rewarding each time we progressed to the next stage and I really enjoyed the theme of the room. I had a really good time in this room. I can absolutely see why others would dislike this game. The set isn't high quality, but I still found myself immersed. The puzzles could be finicky. One puzzle piece was not reset for our run.
Secret VaultATG Escape RoomsEscape roomIRLSet design was not very good. Puzzles did not feel good. I felt like I wasn't doing anything during large swaths of the game even though we were well below the max player count.
GeekPanIQ Room - Nob HillEscape roomIRLAt least one puzzle required outside knowledge and the room didn't hit the aesthetic right for me. Startup tech company isn't supposed to have an office that is so dirty.
Medieval MadnessPanIQ Room - San FranciscoEscape roomIRLThis was perhaps the worst game I have ever done. Immersion destroyed immediately upon starting the room. Un-intuitive and unfair puzzles. Pieces of the set were coming apart. Flow was very linear with puzzles not designed for the capacity of the room. Out of 6 people, several of us had nothing to do at many times. GM told us that the room is difficult because it is supposed to be their hardest one. I don't agree with designing puzzles and game flow to be tricky for the sake of difficulty.
