Masterpiece Escapes

I was a bit skeptical of this room while doing research for rooms to do while we were visiting Charlotte - serial killer and scary? Not my thing. But, we enjoyed Wrecked immensely. The storyline was actually more complex than we originally thought and we enjoyed the variety of puzzles throughout the experience and appreciated how their theming matched unique puzzles. I am a chicken (barely made it through Starlight Motel at Escape Artist Greenville, for reference) but this room was not “scary”. There were jump scares and a what I would call an intense moment, but nothing bad. Our GM Skye also did a great job giving us a gentle nudge when we overlooked a couple things. :) Highly recommend!

We have played several Harry Potter/wizard rooms and we enjoyed this one. We struggled deciding whether to rate this room “like” or “love”… but ultimately went with “like” because there were a few times where we got stuck and the solution wasn’t something intuitive (our GM said everyone has issues with the same things we did, which indicates to me that they should rework a few things). Overall, we enjoyed the decor, the timeline, and the variety of puzzles, but didn’t love solving something and having multiple places where the solution could fit with no indication of where it should go, story-wise. But, the use of tech was good and not over the top or cheesy. It was definitely fun for a Harry Potter fan :)

We really enjoyed Double Agent at CluedIn Escape Rooms in Glen Ellyn, IL! This room was not linear, which can be hit or miss for us, but it was logical and it flowed well. We were able to work separately on puzzles and escape with 20 minutes on the clock! The set design was underwhelming at first glance, but once we started exploring and solving puzzles we realized there was a lot more to the room. Our game master, Brian, was enthusiastic and gave a great intro. We had a lot of fun and definitely recommend Double Agent! Breakout has broken out of their mediocre slump with the two most recent offerings at Knoxville (Clue and Wild West). We enjoyed Wild West and never got stuck or frustrated with puzzles or game flow. It was an easy game and would be great for kids. They could really contribute to gameplay.

We love a niche theme, especially when the puzzles and set are well done and Escape Hunt’s Houston, We’ve Had A Problem was incredible! We (a couple) played with 5 strangers and we needed the extra hands for this room. There are so many fun details, unique puzzles, and even challenges that call back to the troubleshooting NASA had to do with Apollo 13. It’s a different kind of escape room with a split start, but we absolutely loved it.

Visually beautiful room, but we waited on the GM for hints and then the hints weren’t helpful and indicated they weren’t actually watching us. One puzzle required outside knowledge to complete and they could not clue us through it. We ended up leaving this room feeling very frustrated and confused why enthusiasts love it so much.

This room was painfully bad. The theme had potential, but most of the puzzles didn’t make sense or were so worn that we needed help to figure them out. We made the best of it, but the last “puzzle” resets itself and if you don’t get what you need within a few seconds, you have to repeat the very time-consuming puzzle. Incredibly frustrating. Avoid at all costs.
