Mark as done to rate

It's the height of Prohibition and speakeasies are all the rage. You don't recall much about the other night, but you do remember putting up your prized Babe Ruth signed baseball as collateral for your tab. When you attempted to settle up, they said they'll just keep the ball instead. Today, you've vowed to get it back. You don't know where that speakeasy is, but you know entered through a barbershop. Now find your way in, get your baseball back, and get out before the mob guys return and give you a slugging worse than that of the Babe himself.

Solid, older experience. Props showing their age. Good puzzling and a cohesive story. Great staff!

This game was super fun and theme was right on point. No more than 4 people as first room is fairly small. Mix of standard and hi-tech locks.

30 escape rooms

Fun theme with some mechanics which added to the fun factor. We had 5 very analytical people in our group so it was rather easy. I’d say 5 is the upper limit otherwise it would be too crowded. Was told that room would be linear but it does open up at the end. Last puzzle was a bit subjective and pin pointing the answer was faulty so we were clued into the precise answer. This happened during Family Cabin as well so their puzzles could use some adjusting.

I love escape rooms that have physical locks (not electronic puzzles), and this one’s cool atmosphere worked really well to create a fun room with a brisk pace. I usually don’t like “speakeasy” escapes (played out) but this one had a fun theme (get your baseball back :)) that kept it light and not the traditional “mob” vibe.

52 escape rooms

We enjoyed this room! This was my 27th game (22w - 5L) which I played with 3 other adults with varying statistics. The GM was very friendly and offered a few hints (plus allowed us to complete the room even though we were 2 minutes past the deadline - thank you!!). I liked that the room was mostly non-linear, so that we could all attempt a task. There were lots of physical locks which I also enjoy. The decorations were authentic and well maintained. I'd recommend this room for all ages and abilities.

Gameplay

The story flowed well, the decorations were authentic and well maintained. I had a fun time!

Atmosphere

The props were immersive and the timer was easy to see. The room was large enough for a group of 4-6 and suitable for all ages.

Customer service

The GM was very friendly and even allowed us to complete the game even though we were about 2 minutes past the deadline. Thanks!!!

Particularly interesting or different

Yes

We solved a few puzzles that we have not encountered in other rooms. I like the Speakeasy theme and the decorations were immersive.

Story

Everything was very authentic.

Difficulty

Hard

We have played all four games at Quicksand. I think Chinatown was the hardest (we failed) but this might be the second most difficult.

Game tech

Mechanical

There are lots of physical locks, which we really like because then we know how many puzzles we need to solve to move on. (Plus multiple players can try different combinations simultaneously)

Ideal number of players

4

I'd recommend four players with experience, maybe five players if you have solved fewer than ten rooms.

Scary

Not scary

The room was well lit and not scary.

Minimum age

10

Any age is fine, but under ten years old might lose interest.

Was anything broken?

No

Everything was in working condition and well maintained.

Live actors

No

Thank goodness.

Physically active

Somewhat

There is a lot of walking around, stooping, etc. but no crawling.

Accessibility

The room is small so a wheelchair would be do-able but difficult. Hearing, vision, and color are involved in the puzzles. To access the business, there is a steep flight of stairs. I didn't see an elevator.

Easy to find location

Yes

Parking

Medium

There is lots of street parking.

31 escape rooms

Kind of a typical escape room — (in a good way!). Lots and lots of locks. Basic structure - one puzzle leads to a combination. A few different puzzles that were fun and a bit different. Nothing blew us away, but still a good challenge. We played with 7, all varied experiences. May be best with 3-4.

I enjoyed that the different spaces were themed individually so you weren’t in the speakeasy the entire time. The set was just okay, nothing spectacular, but then again, I’ve yet to see a bar themed room that wowed me. I really liked several of the puzzles and liked how they were multi-layered. The staff at Quicksand was really great and we had our Megan as our GM for 3 of the 4 rooms that we played. She has a great personality and was a lot of fun.

This is such a delightful game. The theme is fun, the puzzles are intuitive, but there are still a few moments where you feel stumped before you break through. It’s a very simple game with low tech - but if you’re ok with that the game promises a good time!
