MindTrap Escape Room - Murrieta
Escape room

Hands down the best escape room for families I've seen anywhere. This room has it all: Great theming Puzzles that are fun for kids, teamwork puzzles, fun dexterity tasks, and logic puzzles for the adults. Great special effects I think this room exemplifies how fun escape rooms can be and would be a great first choice for kids and adults alike. Staff were friendly. A few caveats: There is one scene that can get a bit scary with the special effects, so I recommend kids 6+ only Some of the stuff is a little worn down and has things you need to push in fully or it doesn't activate Start time was a little late for me due to room being used before, so there was about a 5 minute wait

I'll start off by saying I made the mistake of thinking I could do this with 2 people, so we went early in the morning with just me and my 8 year old son. In terms of difficulty everything was pretty low, as there were a lot of puzzles focused on counting things or busy work (e.g. a crossword). However, the sheer amount of puzzles means you'll probably need at least 3-4 people to finish this room. There were also a couple of dexterity puzzles sprinkled in which I'm usually not a fan of, but they were on theme for this room and meshed well, so I didn't mind them. I'm not a huge fan of counting puzzles which one of the later ones was, and that's the only thing I didn't really like about this room. Otherwise, theme was on point and we ultimately had fun. GMs are also great at this location. We ended up getting a 5 minute extension because it wasn't busy, and managed to escape at 1:04:57 with only 3 seconds to spare. Ultimately, I think I can still recommend this, especially for larger groups and as a first escape room experience.

Having tried a bunch of Trapped rooms and liking them all, I signed my family of for Trials of Merlin due to all the positive reviews. First off, in terms of set design and tech, this one is fantastic. Great theming, some fun use of technology and overall a very decent linear experience. In addition, as always with Trapped, the GM was fantastic (Sam was our GM). The last room also had one of the best story highlights I've experience so far in an escape room, and was a subject of fun for our family afterwards! Ultimately though, there's a few things that keep me from recommending this room. One of the puzzles in the first room involved looking at some visual clues to see whether you succeeded or failed, but was actually very spotty on implementation. We were trying different combinations and some seemed to trigger the bad state correctly, but other times, nothing happened. Eventually our GM had to nudge us past what felt like a broken puzzle. The other thing I didn't like is that this room felt more like a series of tasks as opposed to puzzles. Again, very thematic and well implemented, but didn't make me feel like I accomplished anything. Ultimately because of those two things I cannot recommend it, and would even point someone towards their older and less techy Down the Rabbit Hole as a better alternative. If they fix that first puzzle I would put it back into the recommend category, as it is a very thematic and cool room.

An okay room that’s worth trying once. This is definitely a 3-4 people max room. The theming was decent but relied a lot on screens because of the time travel. There was also a dexterity puzzle which I’m not a huge fan of. However it’s unique enough and it appreciate what they were trying to accomplish

Great escape room with a lot of interactive object puzzles. Also great room switch mechanic. Had a little bit of everything with visual, math and words puzzles and theme flowed together nicely.

Very solid room from the escape game. Theme was well implemented and puzzles flowed well and fit the narrative. My only one criticism is that one of the rooms is really dim and we missed a hidden object in the corner that was necessary for progression. They provide you flashlights, but still not ideal. Game was completed with 2 people with 10 minutes to spare, so I would say this would be a good room for 2-4 people.

An older room but well-themed and good flow. A combination of all types of puzzles including visual, logic, and some creative thinking. Our GM Karlie was great, nudging us along when something was misaligned, even though we had the right answer (probably the only criticism I have of the room). This room is a very easy recommend for families, first timers and anyone who loved Alice in Wonderland.

I think x-13 is a solid room. The theme is corporate espionage so the atmosphere is literally just an office, but I think they did a good job for what it was. Fun little touches with character interactions and the dress up part. GM was good as always at Trapped. Nothing really stood out about it, but I thought the puzzles all made sense in their context and had a decent flow. Note that this has extra puzzles. When the clock hit 60 minutes we were stopped in the middle of an extra puzzle, but it felt weird. We later learned we had finished the main room at about 35 minutes, haha. Only negative about this room is that I think it needs some TLC. One puzzle in particular had obvious wear where the answers were, which I think takes away from it. Also, pretty sure we were missing a sound effect at the end.
