La Rébellion
The Cipher Room St Peters
Escape room
IRL
We loved La Rébellion! A great variety of puzzles in a high-quality set up. The theme was woven into virtually everything we did, very immersive. Sensors, padlocks, numbers, pattern matching, all solving skills were called upon. Our game master was great, took the time to talk to us about the room in detail after we finished and the souvenir pin was the cherry on top. Recommend.
The Artefact
Next Level Escape
Escape room
IRL
We loved The Artefact! The GM can make or break this style of room and Matt was fabulous. Lots of funny jokes throughout for fans of Portal, Stargate, etc. Great scenario setup, never forgot why we were there or what we were doing. Interesting mix of puzzles, relatively few padlocks.
Mafia: The Golden Ring
Adventure Rooms - Melbourne (Bourke St)
Escape room
IRL
Mafia: The Golden Ring is an excellent experience. The theme was integrated into the puzzles very well. Lots of variety in what we had to do and great use of a decent-sized space. Quite hard, some puzzles had multiple facets that all had to come together in order to find the solution. Very satisfying to get out.
The Cabin
The Cipher Room Newtown
Escape room
IRL
The Cabin was a solid, fun escape. Was in a group of 4 instead of my usual 2-person setup, we got out with plenty of time to spare. The theme was solid, never really forgot we were chasing a serial killer, and the ending is next level! Good mix of padlocks and sensor puzzles. The souvenir pins are a sweet memento.
The Abandoned Cabin
Adventure Rooms - Melbourne (Bourke St)
Escape room
IRL
The Abandoned Cabin was fun! Great production values, everything felt well put together. The puzzles integrated so well with the theme / story, it didn’t feel tokenistic. Great variety of puzzles, there were a bunch of padlocks but they were padded out with a great variety of switches, lights, music, object finding and more. Some very minor boo moments but creepy more than scary. Do recommend.
Bank Heist
Social Escape Rooms
Escape room
IRL
Bank Heist was a blast! The setup of the room is really interesting: there’s a core task (steal the diamond and escape) but if you’ve done that and got some spare time, there’s an optional extra task. Solve that as well, and you score some real life cash! We got the gem relatively quickly but ran out of time to get the cash as well. Apparently only 7 teams have ever done it but we gave it a good crack. I loved that after we were done, our game master presented us with a stats sheet showing us when we cracked all the puzzles throughout the hour and how our times compared to the average across all of their escape sessions in that room.
Unstoppable
Mission Escape George St
Escape room
IRL
Unstoppable was enjoyable. There were some cute jokes sprinkled throughout that gave us some laughs. We (a couple) escaped with 10 minutes to spare, it was a tough room. When we asked for a hint, I was disappointed that we received a complete walkthrough of the answer rather than a vague nudge. The set design was fabulous, great attention to detail. Serious technology chops on show as well.
Game Of The Dragon
Rush Escape Game - South Yarra
Escape room
IRL
We (3 players) did this room when it was the Last Knight Rises. Liked the room styling very much, and the puzzles suited the theme very well overall. There wasn’t much of a storyline, can’t recall why we were locked in the room. Basic optional dress ups were fun. Went 10 minutes over time but the GM generously let us keep puzzling until we escaped. Well-designed for multiple people to be puzzling simultaneously, good variety.
The Black Pearl
Rush Escape Game St Kilda
Escape room
IRL
A quick search for treasure on a pirate ship. Done in 25 minutes. Good variety of sensor puzzles, padlocks and combo locks, fairly straightforward code-cracking. We accidentally unlocked a late-stage puzzle waaaaay before we were meant to but left it alone until it came up in the puzzle-solving path.
The Black Queen
Adventure Rooms - Melbourne (Little Collins St)
Escape room
IRL
The Black Queen was fun! While Adventure Rooms are all about massive numbers of padlocks, the sheer variety of clues hiding those numbers and letters and keys was impressive. Multiple visual tricks, audio clues, magnets, light filters, and other sneaky things hiding things in plain sight. Everything has a use. My favourite Adventure Rooms experience to date.
