The Escape Ventures - Orlando
Escape room
IRL
I've done over 60 rooms and this one is in my top 10. I don't typically enjoy "scary" rooms as I don't love jump scares, but they gladly modified the room for my tastes (gave all the jump scares to my husband, and not to me). The live actor and the tension they created was phenomenal. Besides that, the puzzles were super fun and well constructed, and the set decorations and theme was on-point. TEV does a great job of making the experience start BEFORE the room and this one was no exception. Play this one!

This room is very highly praised, so I had VERY high expectations going into it. And it is a great room! But I actually enjoyed one of their other rooms more, and I wouldn't call this room in my top 10 all-time. That being said, it is absolutely worth a stop if you're in the area. The room is incredibly unique in regards to its play style, and it was a lovely experience with an amazing hint system. We got a behind-the-scenes tour as enthusiasts which was really special, too.

This was an excellent room with a ton of immersion, great set, cool details. The last part of it truly felt like a video game that came to life! I REALLY did not like one particular puzzle which took this room down a notch for me, but every other puzzle was great, and in a 2 hour room that's a nice feat. Highly recommend.

Fun and cute room that is incredibly unique in its theme, relatively easy until one particular puzzle at the end had us pulling out our hair. We knew WHAT to do, just found it incredibly difficult to execute and it probably took 10+ minutes to finish. There was only 2 of us which contributes, but it put a damper on an otherwise very fun room. I wouldn't come in here with more than 3. It's a small space!

This is their stand-out room and it was not a disappointment. I'll agree with others that the pirate theme is well-worn, but this one was very nicely done. I duo almost every escape room with my husband, and it's rare that I wish for more people in the room - but here, I'd like 4. We did escape but it would have been easier with more people for sure. Having only 2 when you not only start out separate, but play a decently large chunk of the game in different rooms, was certainly unique!

Captivating Worlds
Escape room

Not my absolute favorite game at Captivating Worlds (that would be Deep Underground) but still a solid play. It is by far their toughest room. As a team of 2 (experienced), we escaped, but just barely. You will do better with a few more people; 4-5 could be a sweet spot here, I think. There was one excellent and surprising reveal in the room and a really fun and frantic finale. The theming was excellent. My only minor complaint is that occasionally, things obviously opened but it wasn't very clear what it was; however our Game Master was quick to let us know where to look when that happened.

So far we have done 3 of the 4 rooms with Captivating Worlds and this one was absolutely my favorite. A great, immersive beginning (although I felt like the first puzzle was the toughest due to poor directions, but that is the only ding I had) and great scenery and setting. Mostly next gen with a few standard locks. Our GM was great in when we asked for a hint, he let us (experienced escapers) know when we were making great time and based on that info to ask if we REALLY wanted a clue or not. Having that hint about time management was really helpful. We completed this room with 2 people (experienced escapers). Parking was easy. Everyone is always very nice. One of the best escape rooms in Columbus.

Absolutely the most unique escape room I've ever done; almost more like an immersive experience. I would NOT recommend this for newer escape room folks. Not only is it quite difficult, but you will not be properly blown away by how very different and special this room is until you've seen what "typical" escape rooms often look like. One of my favorite rooms I've ever done. Worth traveling in for! There is more than one moment that will absolutely blow your mind, trust me.

This room was...okay. And, as a huge scaredy cat, I actually did not think the room was that scary. Now, THAT being said, I did ask them to cut out most jump scares. (They gave us one.) You can certainly ask for this. If they'd given us the jump scares, the room would probably have been a lot scarier...but even the "solo moments" weren't too awful. I was constantly expecting things that didn't happen. It takes a lot for me to give a room a thumbs down and this one doesn't deserve it, but it's on the lower side of the thumbs up scale. The lighting was too damn low for certain things (my biggest pet peeve). There were a few leaps in logic and puzzles that didn't flow very well. The quasi-last puzzle took forever and had me ripping my hair out - we KNEW what to do, we just couldn't execute it. There is an annoying "find" puzzle. We couldn't get one puzzle to work for us (it involved some manual skill which we failed) and the GM had to give us the answer. One puzzle malfunctioned and again the GM had to help us. Agh! The absolute nicest, coolest GMs I've worked with in awhile, absolutely loved chatting with them. But I wasn't terribly impressed with the room, especially after doing At The Hop, which I really enjoyed.
Prison Break
The Escape Game - Columbus

A good room, but definitely one of TEG's harder rooms. This is a room where you REALLY don't want to be with strangers, in my opinion; you are separated out into two cells at the beginning, making communication an absolute necessity. Unfortunately TEG is one of the few non-private escape companies left, but if you book super early in the morning or other off-hour time slots, you should be successful booking the room by yourself without having to pay the fairly hefty private room upcharge. This is a difficult room, but doable with two IF you are experienced and know when to ask for help. There were a few mildly confusing points - at one point a piece of glass/plastic you need to look through really needs a clean or to be replaced - but otherwise everything flowed smoothly. Very friendly gamemasters at this location!
