“We played Ghost Hunters and Avalanche and had such a wonderful time. The rooms are great, especially Avalanche, and it was refreshing being able to play such unique rooms with such great theming and set design. The puzzles were cool and Avalanche in particular had an incredibly unique and well executed story. Alida ran both our games and she’s just the best. Super helpful and funny, she made the experience truly great. Will definitely be coming back to play Sherlock, Area 51 and the new one when it’s open. Thanks again Alida!!”

“Incredible set! The production value was next level. Gen 2 game that absolutely slaps. There was one physical puzzle that I would consider not fun (?), but a surprise moment that is MEMORABLE and might haunt me in my dreams tonight (and, no, this is not a horror room. Our GM was enthusiastic and hilarious and we loved him.”

“I played this game solo, and it was A LOT of work and a lot of fun! The usage of video throughout was delightful and immersive. Puzzles and props varied wildly throughout the experience, utilizing some classic tropes and some inventive interactions. The plot was thin but enjoyable, and the puzzles were very engaging. As an enthusiast, this room was doable solo, but at least one more person would have helpful, especially for the final couple puzzles that required me to run around like a madman! Staff couldn’t have been nicer; they gave me a free pin and home game for me entertaining them. :)”

“Definitely challenging with two people as there is a lot to get through. We were a bit slow getting started, so we had to rush through the end. But we had so much fun. Rooms aren’t private, so we booked last minute to make sure it was just us, and I’m so glad we did.”

“Loved the variety of puzzles, both technical and mechanical. Really dislike the fact that the reservation isn’t private. We were a party of 3 but when we got there, 4 other people (3 of them children) had signed up. Seven was too many.”

“Our first escape room in LA and we were not disappointed! The atmosphere was amazing across a range of different styles and the immersion element was excellent with a great setting and use of audios. The puzzles were great and the setting was used to amplify this further. I liked the optional merchandise, nice touch! They also offer online rooms at a very reasonable price to purchase.”

“I usually reserve my "heart" rooms for a select few and this room does have a special place in my heart. There were a lot of locks and keys but they are done and presented in a way that immerses you into the room. I felt like this room could be the brainchild of a Disney Mickey with a paintbrush. It just had that much cuteness embedded in the design of the room and the storyline. We had a group of four that did this room, along with Mush Room and we had a great time. This was my favorite of the 2 rooms there but I would still recommend both in a heart beat. I hope that they could keep their family-owned personalized touch when they do start thinking about more rooms.”

“My girlfriend and I did this room last night and we had no expectations since we had no idea what a room called the Mush Room was going to be like. I highly recommend this room, it’s a really cool design and there is a lot to get thru so if you plan on doing it with 2 people, you need to be great at dividing and conquering. Otherwise I would say 3-4 people should be enough to get thru this room. We had a lot of fun and the game masters were so awesome from the moment we walked thru the door. It makes a huge difference to the experience.”

“I was very pleasantly surprised with this one! Good puzzles, some cool tech surprises and a fun ending! I think it was a little on the easier side (we just got stuck on one part for a long time) but there were a lot of puzzles to do so it was very entertaining!”

“I had hesitations taking my parents to this room, one of which has never been to an escape room before. I wanted her first experience to be magical… oh boy, I couldn’t have chosen a better room than this. The experience is really transforming throughout the journey, be quick, be observant, and just step on Garrets’ footsteps :) We escaped with only 3 clues and the GM said the escape rate is 37%, so if you can escape, kudos!”

“We loved this room. Had a scary theme without a live actor. It did a great job of keeping us on our toes. The flow was linear and our team of 5 had a lot to do. The effects in the room were on point and helped with the immersion. Made it through with just 1 clue. GM was very welcoming and I highly recommend putting this one on your list.”

“Great room, not very puzzle centric but definitely fun. Puzzles felt more like a guide or an addon to a good story. Great execution of puzzles and fantastic use of story. Story element adds a very unique twist to the room. Great way to get the players involved.”

“Loved this very cute themed room. We were 7 so it felt a bit crowded at times but there was plenty to do (ideal size here would be 3-5). Solid production value. Definitely on the easier side but we all had a lot of fun! Would recommend. Arrrrrrr 🏴☠️🦜”

“7.5/10 Fantastic experience. Puzzles were fun, innovative, and the atmosphere/set design was great. Just wish it was a bit longer. Only negative is the age of the room showed. Wear and tear on some puzzles. Experienced players you will get through this room fairly quickly.”

“This Alice in Wonderland themed room was actually filled with a sense of wonder! The room has a story that’s based on characters and themes in Alice, but plays out very differently and adds a unique flair of steampunk design in its scenery and props. Speaking of which, the set for the finale is intense and incredible. Other Alice rooms don’t always compare to the elaborate constructed genre mashup that is Steampunk Alice. The unique solution inputs felt fresh, and there was only one standard lock that I could recall. As a fan of Alice, I was intrigued, albeit confused by the logic sometimes. That confusion led to some difficult-to-understand puzzles. A lack of timer made us feel lost in time, which is somewhat disconcerting, but fits somewhat. There are references to other pop culture media, which might not be everyone’s jam, but I enjoyed it. It’s not a perfect room by any means, but it’s a delightful take on Alice that fans will likely eat up (though hopefully not enlarge from)!”

While Hollywood boasts some the most famous attractions in the world, it is LA’s Westside that arguably showcases the soul of the city. From the beach cities of Santa Monica and Venice, to glamorous Beverly Hills, the Westside offers a wide array of experiences for all to behold, including some of the city’s best escape rooms. If art and architecture is your passion, The Getty Center is a must visit. Or if a relaxing day of shopping and high-end cuisine gets you excited, then the Third Street Promenade might be for you.
Escape rooms have found a loving home on LA’s Westside. Since the first escape rooms arrived in Los Angeles in 2016, the film capital of the United States hasn’t stopped crafting these immersive puzzle experiences. In fact, Los Angeles proper is home to 49 different escape room venues and LA’s Westside offers a particularly exciting array of escape room experiences that are suitable for all tastes. 60 Out’s The Mystery of Senator Payne has been a fan favorite for years, and won a 2016 Golden Lock award. Maze Room’s Whatever Happened The Garretts is another hit with avid players and sure to provide an incredible experience. With over 170 escape games in the entire area, the possibilities are nearly endless — you’ll find games with themes of horror, adventure, crime, espionage, and plenty you may not expect.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games where you’re locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to find the key and escape? Those online games were the original inspiration for the live escape rooms you’ll find all across the world today. An escape room is an immersive experience where you (and your team of 2 or more people) are locked in a room with a series of puzzles for 60 minutes. To escape and win the game, you have to look for clues, solve the puzzles, and find the key. While most escape rooms only give you 60 minutes to complete the challenge, others may have shorter or longer time limits. Many venues are private rooms where you and your team are the only players. However, some places may pair you with other groups who booked a slot at the same time. And don’t worry about getting stuck, asking for hints on a difficult puzzle is totally normal. While the original escape room (created by SCRAP in 2007) had a fairly simple aesthetic, today’s escape games often take you into a different world. Artistic set designs, secret doors, and unique interactive elements are all part of the fun. It’s like an adventure game that you can interact with in real life. But if you’re hoping to preview any rooms before you book a game somewhere, detailed images and videos can be hard to find. To keep the puzzles a secret and preserve the experience of seeing the room for the first time, most venues only offer a few photos or a short trailer about the room’s theme or narrative. The only way to know what it’s like is to go and try it for yourself!
There are plenty of awesome escape rooms to choose from in Manhattan. The goal of Morty is to make escape rooms more accessible for everyone to find and play.
